At the start of the video you discuss flatting vs 3 betting with AQ in the BB vs the BT. My thoughts are you can do both. Problem with 3 betting is that we often have to fold if he 4bets which makes flatting much better. So with that in mind vs a more agro opponent who has a wide 4bet bluffing range (who we don't want to 5bet jam AQ) I prefer just flatting.
97s (31min) . I don't like a call here. His preflop raise is so big (6x) and he isn't full stacked, you are OOP and just like you say you will have a hard time making moves on this player type.
A6o 36:50. This is once again a hand similar to what we were discussing in the last video where I feel that the pot odds in a vacuum makes this a call. Like you say folding is gross and 3betting is well, not great. I think we have better candidates to 3bet especially when he minraises which gives us so good odds. If he were to make a bigger raise I'd prefer a 3bet over a call.
Anyway nice to see someone playing similar stakes at FR. Looking forward to the next one.

Yeah, you've described the problem pretty well :). This is something that Adrian and I have talked about in the past... I tend to get in AQ against aggro 4-betters more often than some other players do. AQ plays well both with a 3-bet, and with a call... and you're right that having to fold to a 4-bet really sucks.
When something like this comes up where there's disagreement, I suggest taking a look through your database to see what's actually happening, because it's easy to rationalize either play. I'm going to have to do this myself now. I'm curious to see if I get more value by flatting or 3-betting AQ, and if there are player types that are better to do one over the other.
A6 hand - I'm torn about this one. I stopped wanting to play hands like this to someone not on the button a while back because I'd get in tough postflop spots with it, and see very little value. Now that I attack a lot more postflop in what I see as good spots, that might overcome the inherent problems with weak AXo hands. Thanks for your input, I'll have to try this out and see how well it works.
My initial look at my DB says that over all of the hands in my database (4M+), flatting is much better than 3-betting, and I shouldn't be getting it in preflop as much. This is less clear if I filter on more recent samples... I'll do some more research on it.
thanks again Mike, another great video! you are always clear and enthusiastic. I found your criteria of when to isolate very useful, I will use it from now on.
I did the same filtering for my database and also got that I was doing significantly better when flatting with AQ vs 3betting. However my database, unlike yours, is quite small since I recently upgraded to a SSD drive. Only had about 200 times flatting vs 130 times 3betting. So really not much to say from this since a couple of bad get it ins with AQ vs AK will totally screw the 3betting data up. But still it may be an indication of flatting being better?
