Hey, How would you react with 88 if you faced a 3 bet by either of the chip leaders, knowing or assuming the fact they will come at you considering you have decent ICM and short stack is sitting in BB. Also, how do you handle situation or the thought process in similar scenario to make the best decisions ?
I would probably have folded to a 3bet with 88-TT against the bigger stacks, and I'm not sure exactly what I would've called off vs Amichai but it's possible my worst pair that I'm opening should fold. It's not really the hand I want to take a stand with, I'd rather have blockers so 4betting allin with big suited broadways or suited Ax is a lot more attractive than a pair.
Certainly not the same spot, but this should give you an idea of the structure I'm describing. The big stacks won't be looking to get it in thin vs me, they'll flat mid pairs and AQ type hands, and 3bet me very polarized. This is why I prefer to fight back with suited broadways/suited Ax and not pairs.
Thought for sure we autojam the Q7o at 12bb BvB. Feel like I punt so much with 12BB+ when having 10BB or less would make it a jam type comparisons. Also starting to feel like I take too many close to 0EV spots when I could just pass and get better spots in the weak fields that I play in later on, thoughts on this or is it crazy to think this way?
Edit: You kind of answered this when you fold the 84hh to the minraise open in the BB. :) (Another hand I'd always call with haha)
Yes I think most players are playing far too close to chipEV (and also just shoving too much under chipEV) when they're the short stack at FTs. For example, here's a 6handed ICM sim from preflop academy where the 12bb stack is quite short relative to average, and then a chipEV sim where everyone is 12bb (in both cases Q7o wants to limp, but under ICM it's much closer to 0EV)
Great review. Really looking forward to the next part!
5:10 I am surprised we don't get to jam from the co with any ace being the shortest stack at the table.
How short of a stack will you go down to and still have a min raise open?
31:35 how do you play a spot like this with 99 if A had 3bet you? Are you willing to 4bet stack off? Seems like it would be tough to call the 3bet as we end up xf a lot of flops.
Here's a somewhat similar spot 6 handed with 10bb...still lots of minraising from the cutoff. I think you'll find at a final table it's pretty useful to be willing to minraise even with 7-8bb depending on your position. See above comment for how to play mid pairs vs a big stack 3bet!
31:35 what is your thought on the 99 checking the turn vs delay value/deny equity bet. As it's kinda hard to call and play vs bet. Do we need to consider to bet for protection vs KJ/AJ/AT type hands.
I think block betting the turn would've been reasonable also. My hand really isn't that strong, and pads can check behind some very good hands on this flop, so I don't think I should just block bet every time my hand is weak and vulnerable. I like keeping the pot small under ICM pressure as well.
Thanks for the reply @KRab42. Even the range you shared seems very value heavy and not balanced because generally pop will miss out on those bluff, so folding 88-TT makes a lot more sense now.

That’s a great video thanks
