Always looking forward to your videos. About my poker goals, i feel it's kind of tricky. To give you some background; I am a very ambitious person. However, I can only play poker as a hobby. I have a great career actually and also make a lot of money with it. Also, I have a family, so my time is really limited considering I also need to work out to stay healthy. I also want to spend some quality time with my wife and perhaps read a bit. So this leaves 1.5 hours, max, of playing poker a day. In the weekends, a bit more, sometimes, but rarely during the day.
I play 10nl, so the stakes aren't high, but what I find super difficult is giving the right amount of attention to poker and set goals that fit. With my age, I just can't and won't be a 200nl+ regular who is playing poker 8 hours a day + studying. With the time i can put in I knowI will get crushed by the pros who do do put those hours in. So, I think I need to stick to below 100nl.
Playing for fun isn't also really my thing. I take hobbies seriously. Also, "for fun" would really make me feel like a gambler. And I don't want to be a gambler. I like games and I like winning games. So yeah, that's what I find super challenging. So, for me goal setting in poker becomes really important because the goal needs to fit the time I can put into it.
My goal now, is more proces based. Don't make spewy plays. Have a reason.
What i've considered last week is actually set a goal like: Get to a stage where I can buy a new nice watch for myself, withdraw the whole bankroll (around 3-7k or something for example) stop poker for good and keep the Breitling as a sweet reminder of a game once loved haha :)
My poker goals are quite connect with my core values (+dreams). However they are a bit results oriented, -> well playing nl2k and winning there for sure results oriented goal; But I feel it is alright because it is really what I want to reach.
Also I have process oriented goals, but not exactly sure about them because: how to measure them? Most of them not possible. Even for example having exact winrate vs GTO-trainer. What if I have that winrate next month? Can I check out that goal and move on??
Nope, because after checking it out I might fall behind it. It is similar to being ''honest'
Can I have some examples of process oriented goals in poker (strategy or poker, without mindset goals like ''playing a-game more often'')?
When your goals are aligned with your values and give you concrete milestones on your way to your dreams, thats great!
It only becomes a problem when "shiny" goals like making more money quickly, grinding longer, etc. are in conflict with your values.
Some typical process oriented goals would be:
focussing on certain concepts during play
focussing on play from specific positions or in specific spots
trying to gather more reads
trying out new lines
improving focus during play
game selecting well
preparing sessions with a good routine
if you focus on the quality of your process rather than the immediate result, you are much more likely to enjoy playing AND actually get better results.
So I have 2 kids (7 and 5 years old boys); before children I was online Fixed Limit pro for 2 years in my early twenties, making about $5000/year, more than enough in Estonia alone, rent covered by parents. Then I went travelling with poker money, to India in the end, and coming back, made family. So like 10 years have passed from my pro Fixed Limit Holdem career; but now I wish to start a NLHE career. So I turn to RunItOnce for NLHE advice. I am surprised and reminded again by the amount of big fear that happens at NLHE tables. So is there a way to mix this lifestyle (NLHE semi-pro in the future) with sports games with kids (for happiness, social) in the future idea-wise? I am happy and laughing person and love poker, i am just thinking what the best approach/lifestyle would be to get to NLHE semi-pro.

Old goals: NLHE professional player right away from today
New goals: moving to NLHE in next year fully, semi-pro, main focus on gamedev business
