While it’s true that calling a big bet with (xx)9 3 shows a lot of strength against open queens, it’s pretty unlikely that those queens will check fold 5th, If the 9 3 just calls 4th, especially if they make a second pair. And if they ever are capable of folding 4th in the face of such undaunted aggression, it’s a disaster Costing you 1-3 large bets to lose them. In a heads up tournament spot especially. I think most good players would have alarm bells going off facing this raise, and fold. If the 9, 3 is suited it makes a great deal more sense as now
(xx)Q Q Has additional (albeit not very likely) Flush draw portions of opponents range to Defend against, not just the slim portion of nines and threes that elected to raise and is still in fact the best hand anyway. Raising just represents no real bluffs. And Only a very small portion of value that doesn’t have a pair of queens crushed. Think calling is the only play.
