So you talked about taking days off, exactly how would that happen? Spending a day doing all of things that you are trying to stop doesn't seem like a great idea?

Leszek Badurowicz 8 years, 1 month ago

It's like I said - discipline works like a muscle so you need to be careful not to overuse it. The same mechanism you can observe in the fitness world and it is called 'cheat meals'. The idea is to let your discipline muscle to have a rest and find a balance between discipline enjoying small pleasures.
Of course if you can completely stop eating junky foods/sweets/drinking that's fine but for most of people it's too difficult or they simply don't want to fully quit those small pleasures.

this is some of the best content on runitonce. A half of a chapter of your book seriously gave me about 3 of those "a ha!" Moments. Thank you and more content like this please!

Leszek this video really has helped me, I have realized how much I have been living in "instant gratification" zone: tobacco, sugar, etc. and I see how related all are, and also how living in instant gratification has been preventing me from achieving things in life. This video not only has helped me as a poker player but also to learn to live better. I am really grateful :)

Great video Leszek

How long on average would you say it takes for a new habit to become internalized and automatic?

Leszek Badurowicz 8 years ago

It depends. Different sources show different timeframes, usually 20-30 days with less complicated habits and up to 70 days with more complex.
From my experience I can confirm that usually a few weeks but I never paid attention to the exact numer of days ;-)

Any-word on English copy of book?

Leszek Badurowicz 8 years ago

Around half of the book has been already translated. Then proofwriting, design, reviews and printing. I can't say what will be the exact issue date because it depends a lot on RIO poker project, but I think it will be the second half of the year.
I have made some improvements comparing with polish version and hope you will like it :-)

Well, this video is a very accurate description of something that i was "feeling" and had an abstract thoughts about for many years, but could never logically present to myself in such a constructive way. Thanks a lot for this video Leszek. It is a very important one.

Eagerly waiting for english version of your book. Seems like it's going to be very useful.

Discipline is not about sacrificing the present moment. This is completely delusional and counterproductive. Discipline is about fully embodying and focusing on whatever step you are taking in the present as part of your overall strategic vision. If you are attempting to implement discipline without complete focus on the present, your current steps will be neglected, your quality of work will lack, and your efforts will be much less effective. Discipline is about being present in the process, not sacrificing present for future.

Leszek Badurowicz 8 years ago

I think you confuse two different concepts. Being effective requires you to focus on the present moment and reject distracting thoughts and programs like FB or Skype. Totally agree with that but it has nothing to do with the subject of the video.
Concept that I present explain why people struggle with discipline and provides you with ready to use solutions. It is based on scientific researches and the way our brain works so it's more a science than just my idea of discipline. At the end of video you can find the relevant sources that I was using

I think Leszek is saying that discipline is the ability to sacrifice some part of today for greater reward down the road. Not necessary to sacrifice present all together.

Very enjoyable and well constructed video.

I think there's a lot that can be applied now and plenty of framework for future progression.

Thanks Leszek
