On the last hand, what hands are we expecting vilain to fold?
As you said he shouldn't have a leading range on this flop, it looks like a recreative play, so i guess he won't even consider the backdoor flush that got there which would make the K of spade not so relevant
I guess he will snap your shove on the river with any Ax(A2,A4,A3) which would make a little sense with his lead on the flop if he had a gutshot
Isn't it more safe to just check behind considering that there are not so many hands we hope vilain will fold (66 to 99)?
Hi, thanks for the question. This hand certainly was an interesting one:
My intention for shoving the river is to make him fold any 3x that he decided to continue betting on the turn, random pocket pairs, and potentially some Ax as well given just how strong the range I'm representing is when shoving the river on this board texture. Having the Ks is relevant as I would play a lot of Kxss in the same manner, and it does block some of his combinations of flush draws that he could have chosen to play with such an unorthodox line. I also don't believe our hand has much showdown value by the river when he checks, as I believe he would continue to try to bluff his nothing hands. When he checks the river it appears he wants to try to show down a marginal hand, as I would also expect him to keep betting w his nutted hands as well since this is a board that I am pretty unlikely to try to bluff given the action if he checks to me. All these reasons led me to believe that bluff shoving this river was our best chance of winning the pot, and we would get a fold often enough to make this the most profitable play.
Hi Jeremy, I always enjoy your videos and I hope to be able to watch the second part soon.
I think (not that matter or that is a super valuable opinion) that you played the hand incredibly well and you read the villain range perfectly ;)
My only questions is : Will not be a possibility to 3bet him on the turn ? at the moment that we have much more Ax then he does, planning to bet or shove river if he check to us.
Agreed, though to be honest I never thought it would last as long as it did. I'm just glad to see that poker has grown enough for US facing sites that they were able to run a tournament like this on such a consistent basis. Granted, ACR has a lot of bugs to work through, but if they were to hire a consultant with extensive online MTT experience to help them with their schedule, guarantees, structures, user interface etc. ( hint hint) then maybe they could really take off in the coming years.
At 19:12 your on BB with A2 off. Everyone folds to SB who limps in. You shove for 13bss. I'm guessing the reasoning is if the SB limps his hand is weak and since you have an A you should be ahead of his range. Plus your low with 13bbs so you have to push. Am I looking at that right and is there any other reasons?
Hi niceface, you're correct with most of this assessment. I believe his range is mostly weak, though he does have the possibility of having some very nutted hands as well which will make up a small part of his range . The A blocker in my hand does remove quite a few nutted combos from his limping range, plus I have a hand that favors to be ahead but doesn't play particularly well post flop, and if we are behind we will still win close to 30% of the time regardless against his limp/calling hands. When we combine this with the fact that I am short stacked and picking up the blinds antes without having to see a flop is a huge boost to my stack, our best strategy with this particular hand is to shove all in preflop.
