POSTED Aug 11, 2013

Grayson concludes his turbo MTT review by striving to balance +ev push/fold play with risk aversion, the latter containing extra value due to his perceived edge on the remaining field.

Hey Grayson, incredible vid as always...At 18:12 I guess you are just folding if the BB 3-bets or could we make a case for 4b/f if he makes it like 275k ? I dont think he necessarily has to have a big hand to 3bet you here considering you are opening extremly wide in this spot + his position doesnt really changes if he loses around 275k from a 3b/f. Just think its an interesting spot to talk about and wanna hear your input. Thx

This spot is hugely dependent on his understanding of ICM and also how aggressive he is. Due to ICM considerations, I can profitably shove ATC from the SB, and he can only profitably call with TT+, so he really should not have a very wide range of value 3betting hands. Given that I'm not really sure how aware of this he is, I would assume he is 3betting for value a little wider than he should be. He also had not shown much aggression up to this point, so I would probably fold to his 3bet, but 4b/f is an option as well.

27:06 shoving 30bbs with 99 over the CO open...huge jam for 30bbs but I like the play. Are you 3b/calling TT? Only thing that makes me unconfortable here is that if we shove 99 then we should be shoving 44 too since it's pretty much the same hand vs zen r/c range at this point.

I think I'd prefer flatting 99 and shoving 55...

I would be shoving 1010 as well, according to ICM Nash calculations, zen can open-shove 31.5% of hands profitably, and I can only profitably call in the BB with JJ+. This means that I would need over 67% equity to call an-open shove from zen. Although I would need slightly less equity to call a 4bet shove, since I have already invested chips by 3betting, I still need a lot of equity to do so, so I do not like inducing with very many hands. I would induce only with JJ+ and AKs.

You should be correct that 99 is basically the same as 55 but there is a chance he might hero me with 77 or 88, although it would be a mistake for him to do so. I do prefer shoving 99, and would shove any pair.
