phil long12 years, 3 months agoA basic hand replayer video is ok to start with, but in the future it would be much better if you maybe had specific themes or talked over specific tournament strategies as you are supposed to be one of the best mtters and this video is of a standard that most avg grinders could make
Jason Lavallee12 years, 3 months agoTrying to make this as constructive as possible; def need to go deeper to deconstruct ranges "We have a good hand" and "this is a good board run out" isn't really gonna cut it.
Dunno how you edited the video but it would be nice to see you analyze other peoples play and view of it (general assumptions, reads or notes you would make based on those) - just skipping to everytime you have AK+ or QJs otb is kinda bland
Overall pretty bland video but I'm sure you'll get the hang of it.
mplecki2312 years, 3 months agoThis x100. Watching a narration of the action is pretty boring, and hearing minimal range analysis doesn't add value.
Marty K12 years, 3 months agoAlways good to hear steve voice his opinions in some of the big pots you played, however I think most of us will get alot more value watching you play some of the more common (small) pots such as your opening ranges in various spots and the rationale behind certain choices.
Steve Gross12 years, 3 months agoHi guys. Thanks for the criticisms. They are humbling! I've never been a video watcher so I went in kinda blind here but these comments have given me a better idea of what to do next time. I was advised to skip to just the hands I played so in the early levels on a Sunday that's bound to be a bit boring. But I promise it gets better and that I will get better. Other than opponent's ranges, what types of things would you like to hear about in between hands? Next time I plan on going more into my general strategies and tournament thoughts more than just the hands I play.
Your input is great and your video is very very good. That's the problem when you are such a big name as yourself, the only feedback you get is negative because everyone expects A+ material from you and sometimes you make something thats ....well just A. Imo keep doing what you are doing and if you find the chance to do a live recording vid that would be awesome as well. Thank you - you are a beast.
AntonZ8712 years, 3 months agoFor me it would be interesting how do you rank players for doing something. Like how you can exploit them for doing something, or what kinda read you can take once he does this. Hope you get what I'm trying to say. But as far is 1st video went, I really like it. Your explanations are pretty clear.
teamsnacks12 years, 3 months agoLive vids are so much better, esp if its only a few tournaments so we get your A focus on every spot
Matt Heap12 years, 3 months agoEnjoyed watching the video Steve, although I agree with alot of the comments from the community, in that we could get more value and discussions started with other elements of you game. Watching you coooler a couple of opponents doesn't really get our juices going, however, as you said this is your first video and considering that, I think you did a great job in terms of presentation etc. Once you add slightly more relevant content, I'm sure your future videos will be outstanding.
I really liked how you played the KdQd hand vs the 9To.... I think most people would just c-bet and have missed a ton of value there. I'm assuming your HUD or live read suggested this guy was super agro etc.
Do you use a HUD? If so, it would be interesting to see you make reference to certain tendancies of your opponents and identifying different ways of exploiting them based on their playing tendancies, in order to accumulate chips when your not getting hit in the face with the deck :)
Very much looking forward to future videos of yours.
ActionMic12 years, 2 months agoI would also be interested in a depper analysis of how you play different stack sizes in the middle part of the tournament (before the bubble burst, when you are about 50% players from ITM).
One question about the QJs hand. Are you bet/folding the river given the fantastic pot odds you will be getting?
Good first vid btw.
frenchfish12 years, 2 months agoHi Steve ,first thank youfor this vid and can t wait for the next episodes to come !!Don t want to sound picky but as you asked, one way who could improve the viewing experience is by not mooving the cursor soo much as you speak , it doesn t do anything for our visual pleasure ;D
neversleeping12 years, 2 months agoThe AKo on Tc7s8s . Why don't You cbet the flop, if You wanna call blank turn? I do not get that line at all. After checking flop maybe it is better to fold on the turn? What would You do after he had bet the river after that 8?
Steve Gross12 years, 2 months ago Anton, I try to think about how the guy is playing. Is he opening a lot of pots, how is his sizing, do I think or know from experience that he's capable of certain moves? Do I think he'll make certain calldowns and be willing to fold to enough pressure, or do I expect him to go with it if he's come that far. Then I think about how I'm playing and how I believe I'm perceived by that player and to a lesser degree the people left to act behind me. If for example I have a read that the guy is nuts, but I haven't messed with him much in the past then I'll go for that and expect to get credit. And If I've been the crazy one in our history then I'm more likely to wait for my spot. It's kind of fun being able to establish different relationships with different guys, especially the ones you play with all the time, and being able to play off those relationships.
Matt, Thanks for that. The next tourney I do will be a lot better, possibly live. I've never used a HUD but after hearing so many people advocate it I think I have to try it soon.
Action and Mathieu, I'll try to work that into the next video.
Time2, That would be a wiiild spot. I wanna say yes because that would just be a bonkers spot to bluff and his likely holdings are more prone to calling down than shoving there. like if he had A high or 99 and put me on a miss most people just call not shove.
Neversleeping, Sometimes it just feels like you're about to get shoved on. Really a miserable flop with that action. Assuming he'd shove most of the big aces preflop, what really isn't shoving on us here. The only hands we can beat like JQ JK A9 AJ can still shove us out of the pot and checking back would avoid that and potentially let us nail a turn card or call down correctly, or even bluff certain runouts. Being that it's not a real time video I'm not 100% why but I felt good on the turn. Assuming the sizing and or timing didn't feel right.
One thing I'd like to see in future videos (haven't watched part 2 or 3 yet though...)
I def think it's important to see what hands your are folding from all positions (so let us see those hands quickly folded)....or better yet, discuss what ranges of hands you would be opening from that position with that stack size. For example, maybe you're dealt AQo in MP and open, but I would like to know what the worst hand you would open there would be in that spot. I think discussing this would really help us understand how best to play pre-flop in these tournies.
I love when instructors talk about the "what if" scenarios during a hand. ie) what if he raised, flatted, etc. what would you do. You don't have to go in too much detail here, but maybe just a quick comment on if you'd raise/fold, raise/call....or what you would have done if the board went another way etc.
chasepoker12 years, 2 months agoLiked it. Maybe show some of the less interesting hands eg showing you opening weaker hands and the reasons why ( even if it just gets folded). You could show some of the hands you fold pre that may be marginal or even show some interesting hands when you not involved if it shows some mistakes that opponents make a lot.
Was good though Thanks.
Galexie12 years, 1 month agoOn your AA hand and you ended up all in pre vs QQ, How would you have played the QQ if you were in that spot? Also, I agree with 'fitzroy' and love hearing the 'what if' situations of what you would do if the villain were to check rather than raise etc.
