Got a lot out of this review.

27:30 this turn call seems marginal. Facing the big bet when it comes from oop into two opponents on a wet board seems strong. Plus you have someone behind you who is not necessarily capped and you won't like a lot of rivers.

Glad you did Sound!

I do agree it's marginal. But making marginal calls is a lot more fun than making marginal folds :)

What did you make of the turn probe? Seems like this hand is way too loose to probe into 3 people, 1 of which is uncapped? Luke has 2 lots of flush draws, plus a bunch of straight draws.

Sorry Matlittle, missed this comment before.

I don't think it's that bad of a combo blocking the continue range and unblocking folds, however, in context of MP carrying their full range to turn there will likely be to many bluffs for this sizing on the turn. So I agree, but just think it's marginal on the surface. Again, to be fair to Luke, most people probably don't check range flop from MP.

Frankie,
The hand you played at ~30:00 when you have A7 and make 2 pair on river in 3-way pot, you mention that you don't like your check in this spot. I agree with your thoughts on this hand, but I am curious what your bet sizing would be here? Do you go with small bet or a large bet?
Interesting multi way situation.

Thanks Frankie

Hey sound. Yea it was a interesting hand. I think like a medium/large type bet would be appropriate. We actually can have some strong hands relative to the other ranges here. BTN is very capped at this point and when Luke checks he is fairly capped as well. When turn brings in multiple straights for BB and they PSB flatting with some of our sets I believe is appropriate. Thus we can get to river with lots of 2p + sets, but unlikely to have straights.

For moving up stakes I have seen other people recommending setting aside a small number of buy ins for your higher stake, e.g. 10, and then using that as a shot to move up. If you survive then you stay there, if not you chalk it off and keep grinding until you are comfortable trying again. What do you think of this idea? Do you think there are any merits to this approach instead of just mixing in the higher stake with your current stake until you are comfortable moving up completely?

Hey Matlittle. So this is what I was talking about in the video. This is called mental accounting. Treating money differently based on buckets is not the right way to think about it as money is fungible or interchangeable.

So I guess I don't like that idea per say. I would look at your finances in totality rather then, "poker money", "saving for car", "shot taking", "paying bills", etc. in making the decisions to play higher stakes.

An alternative strategy could be, just play 1 or 2 tables for short sessions and really focus on how the new regs are playing at the level while not putting 4-6 full stacks at one time. If you stay discipline with this, it should limit absolute $ downswing while understanding if your skills are ready to take on the new level.

Just my opinion. Can't stress that enough. Moving up stakes, like personal investing, depends on your own situation, risk tolerance, and ability to afford risk.

Hey Frankie. Great video, I’ve been thinking about moving up stakes seriously of late and tons of great information and advice here.

When I think about it, I’ve had days sometimes when I’ve lost 10 or so buy ins and I’m fine! I’m easily to get back and grind it back in a single session or two.

However like you said. Let’s say I did shot take and move up stakes! But I lost 75 buy ins! My bankroll would be gone and I couldn’t play poker anymore lmao!

So much to consider, new players, new stake, the affect losing potentially more money affect on my mental game! Also I don’t have much experience at this stake.

The experienced, exploits tendencies I have, might not work out as well a stake higher! Definetly would be less fish and better players?

All things to consider,

So when shot taking how many buy ins would I be comfortable losing before having to move back down?

Could I play both stakes at the same time? Maybe that’s an option, but less tables!
