POSTED Oct 24, 2020

Francesco Lacriola grabs a sample of hands from recently played cash games and loads them into the replayer to analyze them in detail and combine his in-game thoughts with what the solver thinks and how to reconcile these approaches.

H#1 98 on A848 value bet
H#2 AA on K79TT value bet
H#3 97 on T8xxx triple barrel - bluff
H#4 97 on 997-J-K - value bet
h#5 87 on 884-3-4 - value bet
H#6 AA on QJ7r-Kss-Q - value bet
H#7 T8 on J96ccc-7x - value bet

Where your thought process seemed correct with bet sizing or line chosen between check or bet. 6 out of 7 hands were just clear value bets given hand strength, especially in a HU match. Hand #3 seemed to be the only interesting hand where you had to decide to triple barrel or not.

The hands I selected for this video mostly focus on small bets and some slowplays. The idea is to understand what size to implement and whether or not is better to bet/consider checking considering the ranges in play. As you mentioned most of the selected hands want to extract value, but it's important to do so considering the whole range and also avoiding to valueown ourselves by choosing bigger bets and strengthening our opponent's calling range (consider the AA on Q J 7 K Q and the 98 on A 8 4 8 with a river that completes the flush and the As not on the board).

I agree with your line and thought process and enjoyed the river blocking bets. Just thought there would be some hands like QJ on KQ943 for a tougher decision on to bet or facing aggression and whether to bluff catch or not. Maybe can make a bluff catching video next? Thanks in advance!

RunItTw1ce Do you mean a more theoretical video about bluff catching or with practical examples? I feel practical examples might not be very effective in that case, as they are very player dependant spots. Take the QJ on the KQ943 for example: you might feel players don't giveup on the river once they second barrel and might think they're overbluffing the spot and feel the need to over defend. The very high frequency of triple barrel might just mean they're going for thin value very often and not slowplaying enough strong/medium strong hands on the turn and perhaps checking a big more gutshots type hands, so they end up underbluffing, but thinvaluebetting to punish calls with QJ/QT weak Kings.

I was referring to more practical examples, but I think you can probably do a power point for a theory video to talk about some heuristics used to bluff catch, followed by some practical examples, and finished off with PIO sims to show some of what PIO is bluff catching with in certain spots. Also prefer primarily six max hands, so ranges are more condensed. Let me know if that sounds good. Doesn't need to be a ton of hands, like 3-5 hands given there is a lot of info to cover.

RunItTw1ce thanks for the idea, I already started to plan a bluffcatching hand review video (I think it would work better with the hand review + pio sims format). I will only use 6max hands, but I already have some videos scheduled before it, so don't expect it to be released in the immediate future.
