At 8:05 yes, that was my initial thought. Let's assume for a moment a set of 7s are betting half the time and we're deciding whether or not having an 8 makes us bet more or check more.
One reason to bet than to check would be "I block his future attempts at bluffing" so let's get value right away, if at all we can.
One reason to check more would be "I can bluff catch more easily, so let's check" or we block his continuing range like you rightly said. Here we play more passively by checking.
You have to decide which one carries greater weight.
These are rendered irrelevant at 50bb as you're always checking, no matter the side cards.
At 200bb however, having an 8 along with 77 here would mean we simplify to going small always. The reason is we block so many check calls that we choose a passive line- going with the small sized bet exclusively.
