Cory Mikesell continues his examination of a recently played session on Run It Once poker and has shaken the rust off and gotten the hang of the splash pots and looks to ramp up to his A game.

Thanks for the video, enjoyed.

I would love to see a more in-depth analysis of the A764 hand at 26:55 on the top table. Can you bet this river large with overpairs?

You seemed a little unsure about a quite a few preflop spots so I looked up a few:
26:55 Top Table - A764ds open EP

36:51 Top Table - JJ83sss open BN (but you were 150bb deep with bb)

And then I thought you were flatting too wide in the SB throughout the video. Specifically with mediocre QQxx and JJxx type hands. Example 40:05 Top Table with QQ85ss. My guess is that this is a function of playing a lot of HU. But let me know if you or others disagree.

Cheers.

Hey slvrsluger,

Great post! Thanks for sharing that. Yes your read on me is spot on. Most of my play is in HU and the 6 max action I do get tends to be short stacked so I was feeling a little uncertain about the SB stuff. I would argue that a skill edge might be enough to justify opening the button wider, however the SB flat was just a blunder and I don't expect to be able to dazzle anyone with a skill edge 3 ways OOP.

I will definitely add the A764ds hand to my next HH review video. I'd like to see if the small turn sizing is used often there. Regarding the overpairs: My guess is that yes we could go for a large sizing with overpairs on the river in x/x/b, however I worry we don't get called enough. In practice, we might want to bluff large and value bet small. This will be a great spot to break apart in some depth.

Just monker solutions that I bought and then placed in a little graphical display I coded up. It is similar to plo matrix, but I don't need to pay evil doug polk 50usd a month :)

in regards to the subject of a future series of videos, I would vote against bomb pots and against obscure situations like ep rfi vs mp cc. I personally cannot play on RIO and so I cannot appreciate the analysis behind preflop range discussion for bomb pots.

also I noticed quite a bit of discussion on situations that (imo) are not a big mistake either way and thus probably don't do us massive favors to spend time studying.

I know I can only speak for myself, but I don't particularly enjoy liveplay videos as much as I used to. reason being, I've realized we are at the mercy of the rng as to what situations happen to present themselves. conversely, if you were to do hh-review you could filter for related situations and keep some variables somewhat constant while isolating others to attempt to get a conclusion from the study.

i.e. 6max sb v btn 3b pots 100bb.
how do we play T52ss differently from T82ss?
how do things change if sb 3b is 5% vs 15%?
how do things change if we are 50bb 100bb 200bb eff?

I think this type of structured study is necessary to improve, and live play, though entertaining to relax and watch, is more accurately described as "pokertainment"

I'm not knocking the content within the video, just the opportunity cost we as viewers pay to watch live play from someone extremely adept at solver work

Hey NittyOldMan,

Thanks for the constructive feedback. I also don't think footage review is the best way to go which is why I almost never make this type of video. I like your suggestions and will definitely incorperate them into a future series. I actually just recorded a squeezed spot video for 100bb where I compared CO vs SB 3B vs CO vs BTN vs SB sq with the intention of figuring out how squeeze betting ranges are different from HU betting ranges. Hopefully this will satisfy some of the things you're looking for. I'll be sure to incorporate your other recommendations as well.

Distinct decrease in quality in your last few videos; much prefer your videos that utilize graphs and aggregate reports. I think low stakes videos with long analysis of largely inconsequential hands is not a positive trend in some of the elite coaches’ content

Were there other poor theoretical videos prior to this live play series? I'd like to know just so I can avoid making content viewers don't enjoy. I don't intend to make live play videos so please don't worry if that is the concern. As for playing small stakes, this was the highest game running on RIO poker at the time and pros were asked to make content showcasing the site (which I really do like). If I do ever decide make a live play video in the future, I'll limit it to 5-10+

Great video
I'm curious of the hand at 16:30 on the bottom table if a C/R is a potential option? Especially if people are over C betting board textures like this to have a bluff C/R range with something like 4xxx hands/gut shots/open enders and then balance with 7xxx hands.Would like to see both lines explored in the hand review session if possible if that video hasnt been made already(i'm only signed up this month and going through the back log).Looking forward to more of your videos either way!

Thanks

Hi Reggina and welcome!

You're definitely right about the x/r bluffing hands and the fact that I do want to have x/r on this board. That being said, my kicker here is only T high and I have no BDFDs so I'd rather x/c this one. I think we could definitely expand our x/r range given the observation about people overcbetting, I'd just rather do it by increasing my A7 x/r frequency from say 60% to 90% (just hypothetical numbers) and adding some K7 too. Hope that helps.
