Range Research: Common Overfolding Spots

Julian Kopanskiy

POSTED Apr 19, 2018

Julian Kopanskiy aka ki11u dives into his database to uncover a surprising variety of postflop spots in which villains tend to overfold. He analyzes a variety of common lines in single raised and 3bet pots to teach you when your spidey-sense should be tingling.

Nice content!

Do you have any other stats than WTSD you can use to profile player tendencies with smaller sample sizes? I usually only have between 100 and 500 hands on players and mostly base it on showdowns, lines used, preflop stats and overall postflop aggression and fold frequencies at the moment. Should I add in WTSD for those kind of sample sizes or do I need more hands to get accurate information?

With such small sample as you mentioned Vpip/pfr, total betting and folding frequincies on each street, are the only stats you could rely on. Even for wtsd i would recommend more then 1k hands.

Hand2Note intrigues me greatly. I'm using PT4 and DriveHUD right now but when I start to move up to higher stakes, I am definitely going to invest in H2N. It's so deep, next gen, and professional.

Hello, nice video! First time i see the use of the hand researcher of hand2note (which is awesome btw).

I have a question, at 7mn35, we can see that AQ is a break-even float when his turn cbetting frequency increases. But u made the assumption that we checkdown on the river when we call turn (with top pair). But our implied odds and the last round of betting don't make the hand +EV? Given that the board is really static on an A or offsuit Q we tend to realise 100% of our equity because so few rivers can make us fold the best hand here.

We hit only 13% of the time, so it will not have too much influence on the flop call EV.
Vs utg open and 3 barrels i'm not sure that we are very happy calling river. So not expect to much implied odds. Usually we will have to calldown, but don't think opponent will overbluff too often.

Hi Julian, I am never disappointed with your videos man! :D

I just bought H2N after a week going deep into Nick Howard's stuff, which I find insanely good. I don't have enough bankroll to aford his course for the moment, but I am trying to get the most out of database analysis, that's why your video is just gold for me! :D

So here is my question: how can I get the most out of this software, without PIO for the moment? Because I think just going over the numbers and study them a bit is not enough. How do you go deeper into that and get the most out of it? Do you store a maximum of informations on an excel document? Which spots and which criterias are the most relevant to start mass database analysis?

And one more question which I am really concerned about: How do I not get lost with the adjustment I make against the informations I can gain from MDA? I am a midstakes player, and I think it will be very easy for me to misadjust after seeing a commonly overfolded spot, for example by polarizing my range too much or floating too much on earlier streets in order to overbluff a particular runout.

Thanks, and keep the good work man, love it! :D

I think PIO is actually not needed to much for MDA! Because we are trying to exploit certain things and definitely want to deviate from GTO.
You should try to not look over to many things at the same time. Find let's say 5spots on which you want to work, they should be the most frequent ones and should have biggest deviation from GTO (70% fold on some street worth way more than 50% for example)

Write them down somewhere, and work over them for a month, later you can create H2N filter to look how many folds are generated exactly vs you!

And obviously keep in mind that when somebody saw you get to much out of line the will stop folding!!

Thanks a lot for the answer!

By using PIO, I meant by node locking and studying how the pool tendencies will change our strategy in order to maximize our EV.

That makes a lot of sense, but the issue is that since 6 days ago, I have found around 15 overfolding spots (around 60-75%)! I'll definitely go more in depth with some of those! :D

Actually, I play anonymous tables with a highly leaked population, so I don't worry too much about oponents countering me.

Btw, that video helped me to discover a new way to approach the game. I think this will have a huge impact on my bb/100, thanks man!
