How many times does Chris say "Maybe?"

Maybe we can all learn a new word for maybe....
Thank you for making the video, I thinking going down the rabbit hole is my biggest weakness; whether its texting, social media, youtube, etc. Need structure and maintain focus with gaps in between of small time frames for free time.
Hahaha, how many times did I say it? Did you count? Oh my..
Structure, start small and give yourself some room to not be perfect, but do a small thing consistently. Maybe start by adjusting your environment, so that some of these things come more automatically, when you have everything at hand all the time it is really difficult.
I have a video on that by the name: Environment was released in 2018.
lmk what you think and if you have more troubles, also let me know
I didn't count, but found it kind of annoying, was laughing at the same time. Environment is definitely key, will check out the video on it. I feel like "maybe" leaves doubt in peoples minds and need to be more firm in different structures. Maybe show why exercise is important before the session. Eliot says boost up to 3 hours of energy level and focus. Need more of why these things are done in a certain order and less of what we could do. We all know what we could do. The results of those things is the mystery.
I resonate a lot with all the things you said, starting from the bottom, it is really crucial to build small habits, focusing on just few of them at the time.
I always have the willingness to fight but everyday I feel overwhelmed, this is really the right word. The problems was I was trying too hard to do everything, whenever I miss something I felt a lot of guilt.
Now I've deployed a system that allows to add small things at the time
The big bolded squares are the go-to goals, things that I focus on today. Every 3 days I add a very small thing to be compled.
For now it is working, also, I know precisely what to do once a step is completed
Regarding the first part of the video, well... I felt understood.
Poker is a very lonely profession, period. It doesn't matter if you are "connected" via skype to someone else... we are social animals.
I have my PC in my bedroom, so I sleep 1/3 of my life in my bedroom and also another 1/3 of it is spent at my dekstop in my bedroom, make 2/3 of my life confined in a single room. This is depressing.
Thankfully I'm striving to change something in my life and gladly, I'm a very social person and whenever I go out, people fight to be with be. So it is bad right now, but I've identified what I need to tweak.
Also poker is like a business where you are the owner. You know, bosses never disconnect properly from work with the result being always thinking about the job.
Poker is very very similar and I find quite difficult to "sign off" when my job for the day is done
I also think poker has an hardwired issue, ppp don't build anything and they aren't part of something bigger than themselves.
We use the term "grind" and it is right... we grind grind grind to where? We don't have a clear goal, even if we would have one, it isn't the same as working toward something bigger with a team behind it.
Obv, I'm listing only the downsides of this profession while leaving out the pros, which is not fair tbh.
Ok, that's it, I realize this post is just a reminder for me, to improve the facet which I don't like.
And I'm sure that I see a dark future because I have not progress since years.
Time has come to change
Great comment, thank you, you seem to have at least a couple very good ideas and observations about yourself, now it is very important for you to not forget them but take them serious, create a life around them (be adaptable).
Poker is a great game, but like you said, not being part of something other than you can sneak up on you easily. What you can do is make poker about mastering yourself and then let others see what you learned by being an example of how to live and how to handle tough decisions in life. You don't always get the opportunity to be that example, but it does exist and you can be an inspiration to others if you master this.
So by mastering your spreadsheet, you add something in the long run, that can help others.
Another thing, is just like I said in the video, you can become part of something outside of poker, become a hobby gardener or what not... Maybe help others build houses.
Poker so easily has one think that is all about maximizing EV in the game, but it is often missed that by making your whole life better, your poker EV will go up as well.
Thank you, glad to hear you get something out of them. Agreed, it is too easy to not work on the mental aspect... but just as much, to not take care of oneself
Hello Chris, do you got any videos about ''Patience''(or close to it), I've watched almost every video and can't remember where it was. Probably it wasn't main topic but I remember you talked few times.
This one is nice for sure. I can easily be wine taster, but easy to get unbalance and become bar member :/
Hey Jeff, I will have to think about which video the patience one was.
One video I'd recommend on a similar mindset is: Effortlessness.
Also in: The Ways We Don't Trick Ourselves at around the 5:50 mark and after there is an important fact about patience, which goes into Presence.
Chris, you talk in many videos about the importance of beeing present and enjoy the moment.
Do you think it can be aligned with the performance pressure before a session?
I try to better explain. My main session is in the morning, about 2.5h after i wake up and execute my morning routine. During those 2h, i try to stay present, relaxed, joyful but it often get overcome by this internal pressure/anxiety of having to play my best that day and don't make the same mistakes, improve etc. Luckly once i get into the action and play poker, those feelings disappear and i'm just focused on in game decisions.
Still i don't understand if that feeling is what every performer has and i should just accept that ,or it might be some mindset issue i need to work on. What's your thoughts on this topic? Thanks!
Great observation and question,
when you feel anxiety, it is about something that is in the future, thus automatically you are not in the present, in the now. Just to point it out.
You are doing what you are doing, to get to that point, instead of doing (your morning routine) for the sake of doing it, because it is good for you. When your mind learns to stay in the now as much as possible, you will notice, that there is no room for thinking about what is to come, because the now is too important.. Think of the Tai Chi Master, that I have in my Video Presence. I am currently in the process of creating a video that will also aid with your question.
One thing I would like to point out is, to create a physical aspect that is included in your presence or mindfulness. Think of when you might play a team sport for fun, there is no time to be anxious, games are often too fast paced and you have to react or act.
What is the influence you have on a poker session in terms of having a winning or losing session? Not much, right (unless you purposefully butcher every hand, but if you are a winning player, you don't have too much influence over your exact results).
Thus the focus should be on the performance, on being open minded and adaptable.
But as Archilochus said:
You don’t rise to the level of your expectations, you fall to the level of your training – Archilochus (680 BC – 645 BC)
Once you have covered your bases, you can perform and what will show up is what shows up, there is no need to pressure yourself to be your best, you will do that automatically.
What you can do is remind yourself daily that you did what you could and the rest is out of your hands and you just have to be present and follow through on the correct plays that you know to make..
You rarely will be able to make plays you don't know yet, so why worry about them?
Poker is a lot about consistency and execution of what you already know.
I recommended it to Jeff as well, but I would recommend to you the following videos
- Effortlessness
- The Ways We don't Trick Outselves
- Presence
There are more and as I said, I am working on one that i touching on what you said.
Thanks! So much value in your answer that i need to take some time to elaborate and think deeply about. Can't said more that this atm haha.
Have to say tho that This quote really hit me and it's a great reminder ; You don’t rise to the level of your expectations, you fall to the level of your training – Archilochus (680 BC – 645 BC)
So, looking forward to your next video, and if you don't mind to share it would be interesting to know if you are playing professionaly, or as a mindset coach or anything else. . I think you never mention before :) .
Cheers
Lol, for someone who isn’t a poker player thoughts on what a poker player actually is, maybe very different from reality, May think that the work they do is easy, and it’s just living the best life like SpongeBob and Patrick, but in reality it’s not that easy! It requires many hours of hard work, and pain and discipline to be successful winning player.

In Life or at Poker : Stay balanced is sometimes the best advice...
I really appreciate your videos, I think mental part is underestimated by most player.
I would like to see more of your videos on RIO.
Thanks you
