What happens when we tilt? How do we maintain calmness at the table? How much impact does a negative mindset actually have on our game at the table? These questions and more explored in Chris Pimmer's latest offering.

Thanks Chris for another great video! I like the concept of stillness as opposed to agitation. When I am agitated I am impatient. I rush things. I am not as focus as I should. Sometimes it's clear that I am not still, sometimes it's subtle. Whenever it happens, it's a deviation from my A game. In this moment, I just close my eyes, breathe deeper and let it go.

Yesterday night I had one those subtle agitated moments while playing and I got to realize it after my session ( I was fortunate enough to realize it at least) and then I saw your video. Great timing! Thanks!

You are welcome, so glad you liked it and more importantly, awesome about your recognition.
Question now is, can you increase the consistency with which you recognize it and how would you increase the moments that you are still enough to perceive whatever comes up?
Hint... maybe I said something in the video :)

Chris Pimmer Thanks for the response and for the challenge also. My goal is to increase my consistency in my poker game in general and this apply obviously to the ability to recognize the rise of the agitation with the purpose of stopping it by not resisting to it. Taking a step back, reassessing what is going on, taking a deep breath as been my technique to reach the stillness zone.

I might have to watch again your video, which is not a punishment obviously, because I'm not sure it's related to your hint.

Great video, I found it bit hard with meditation. Even after quite long time of short mediation practice my mind is jumping from breath to thoughts and back.
No one said it will be easy so I'm going to master it

Chris Pimmer 4 years, 8 months ago

Hey Jeff_ :) you master it by doing it
It is not so much about having a still focused mind but about returning to it whenever you notice it.
It is literally about the path, the process of you returning whenever you notice and then this will become more and more over time

Hey, Chris Pimmer - Thanks for the wisdom! Not to sound weird, but I think of you often, in a completely 'cool' sort of way. It seems that you have cemented (pun intended) your place as one of the steps I go through in my mind when I am being consumed by negative emotion.

Here is a simplified example of what that looks like in real life:

*Step 1 - "Ugghh, this feels dreadfully awful. I feel so sad and I don't know why and it feels like my emotions have the flu. I don't like this one bit and I think I want to cry and go to sleep.

*Step 2 - "Chris Pimmer" <<<<< Just picturing or saying your name in my mind is like a trigger/reminder for me that there is an escape from this terrible feeling and to proceed to step 3. Thanks, Chris =)

*Step 3 - "You don't have to stay here in this awful place of negative emotion and depression and sadness. Acknowledge and accept your emotions and understand that it is okay to feel them, as unpleasant as that is. Then, decide resolutely to not stay there in that dark place and move on to somewhere else. If you have nowhere else to go, create somewhere, even if it is just a non-judgmental or meditative state of examining a physical object or focusing on your breathing.

Just last night this exact sequence occurred and I had nowhere else to go to escape the depression, so I created a place by focusing on a metal fence outside and meditating on its shape, texture, feel, etc. Within 2 minutes I felt much better and was no longer stuck dwelling on my sadness, which is what I used to always do in the past before discovering this process. And how did I come up with this process that seems to be so revolutionary for me in managing my depressive feelings? That credit would belong to Mr. "Step 2."

Hey OMGIsildurrrrman12 what can I even say, I am very honored and glad that there is a positive force in your life, but more importantly, your process is beautiful !
In the video I talk about the stress and recovery training, using cold showers, this is something you can also try out. Cold showers are proven to help with depression. But you would do them for even more than just that, as they allow you to become even more involved with learning to let go.

Thanks so much for this heartfelt comment

Thanks a bunch, Chris Pimmer - And thank you also for the reminder about the stress and recovery training and learning to let go. I definitely need work in this area and will try to take small steps toward training and improving here. See you in the next vid, my friend! =)
