Might have to watch & listen this over again because I was only listening while grinding. The part you talked about "what's the danger" when you have your water, clean desk, you put in the work and everything is perfect was kind of surprising. We need some type of "danger" to stay focused.

Do you have any focus videos? I am often multi tasking while playing. For instance I was listening to your video, then friend would send me a sport bet he liked, so I was checking scores of games, all while playing poker. Then learning how to do different things on my HUD that I wasn't familiar with, so just kept jumping around trying to accomplish different things and relying on my study of ranges, formations, bet sizes, etc to make money while doing these other things. I know you mentioned something about "If you have trouble focusing....." then I lost whatever else you said at the end, so will definitely have to go back and watch it while I'm not playing. Usually I give full focus to videos while studying, just thought a mindset video I would be able to listen and not have to pay attention as much.

Hey, think of the irony here, you are trying to watch a video that talks at least to some degree about focus, while not focusing on it .)

If everything is set up perfectly, there is a higher chance of you falling into a trap of feeling overconfident, thinking that you got it all handled and then you won't notice many of the fine subtleties that can make your WR get boosted even more...
Or same goes for life situations, just that those come up quite infrequently.

Where you can perceive something and could make a different choice for your words or actions but you don't and you mess something up.

Thinking of focus similar to significant other getting mad when they are talking to you and you are on your phone. Should be mad at myself being my own boss for not focusing when I'm "working" and being over confident.

Some times this robotic style of play helps me stay within my ranges because I often over adjust to crazy players and start playing more hands outside of my range trying to get involved in more pots with the fun players at the table, then I feel like I'm on the wrong side of coolers flush vs boat or flush over flush etc and I look back and think is the 97s from the HJ even a profitable open? I know fish is in the BB but am I over estimating my skill edge vs a sticky opponent?

After watching the video again, I really like verse 15 especially the parts of waiting for the water to become clear when its murky / muddy. And "the master doesn't seek fulfillment" regarding not forcing the action on certain hands, just being patient with your strategy and results will take care of themselves long run.

Only suggestions I would have is maybe share some links such as meditation that you use to help achieve focus. I know Eliot has one I'll link below for those who have A-Game Poker Master class. I'm sure it applies to cash games as well. I need to listen to these MP3s he has more often. My go to has been online cash game tilt buster.

Hello Chis, I like pictures inside presentation they look more visible and less ''normal''. Improving a lot and quality of content growing as well.

While watching video I started to think about 2 things related to this topic. A) Distractions - this one is self explaining, however I'd like to put different perspective there. I am easily distracted but why??? Maybe because I feel bored, my mind not used to calm enviroment and I can't sit alone with my thoughts (all those just examples). Maybe there are another reasons.... Do you agree that in order to get less distracted (often) I need to work on that? Or my willpower need a bost?
I was talking about my study routine, and if I study for an hour at least i start to feel quite lazy and bored. No matter what I am doing with my study - sovlers, looking over hands, reports.

Hey Jeff_ thank you very much for letting me know about the new graphics, very much appreciated !!!

On your issue, it often has a lot to do with your "default" mode. Likely you have not trained or lived a long time in your life with being focused and paying attention for long stretches. Discipline plays a part in this, but it is mainly that you need to learn to become better at paying attention for longer stretches.
But beware, very easy to fall into the trap of trying too much for too long.
When we talk about training attention, for someone that is somewhat untrained, 5 minutes, 10 minutes is already a long time and the increments in which to increase the training should also be rather small. Ultimately you could try and do what seems natural.
When your focus drifts off, you push maybe for 1 more high quality minute and then stop. However, often times we do not even notice that we are already long gone.. when that is the case, just like in meditation, once you notice you are gone, you can do another last push, or when playing, you can also just quit that moment, because doing too much is better avoided (given that you can lose money playing).
Push yourself rather when you feel a little stronger and more focused.

The way you live your life will also improve or decrease your ability to pay attention.
If you live very unhealthy, not moving much, not gettting much oxygen circulation in your body, things are a little harder than if you are getting all those areas into an ok position.
But also how you live your life. What you do has a "cost". If you browse the internet, while it might not feel that way, it has a cost on your ability to paay attention and you will get tired more quickly. Things like that, I hope this was helpful

I think with desire/wants in life and poker it comes down to identify.
Who do I want to be?
Do I want to be a good poker player? Or do I want to be the best poker player I can be
Do I want to be an average gym goer? Or do I want to put in maximum effort for the best results at the gym?
Do I want to be a good athlete? Or the best athlete I can be?

I think about these things sometimes when I feel like not putting in the extra study, or when I don’t want to play poker and slack off or watch a movie or something, not want to go to the gym, because to achieve what you want in your journey, you have to put in the effort required.

Good, but be careful with these things, you can quickly fall into thinking that everything always needs to be optimized and perfect and lose oneself in complexity.
Be a good human being, do work, look at your health and relationships, be kind, be consistent with these things (and others), and when something seems important, put it some effort, even when you don't feel like it, don't let your willpower or desires and judgements dictate your life. Choose your the way you wish to live.

In other words, express love towards yourself and others and be present and aware and understand what that means and how it expresses itself in you.

I guess you could say I have a general view as a myself as a good human being that’s friendly, genuine and curious!

Choose the way you wish to live, that’s very deep and inspiring.

Sometimes in life, I think we have this sort of negative attitude towards ourselves, self victim blaming oh why me, why can’t I run as hot as that guy is running right now or why am I always getting sucked out on on the river.

These are just things that happen, we shouldn’t have this sort of negative mindset towards ourselves because of it.

Sometimes however the other day I was having this thought, that the random people you meet at the poker table, sometimes I don’t care, I’m not there to be there friend, I’m just there to play poker and maximize my EV, I think this is kinda result of playing online so much because you can’t literally see or be around the people your playing with online.

Live there is the social aspect, if physically being there and communicating with others. I generally don’t talk while I’m playing a hand and don’t like to discuss poker strategy at all at the Table. Other times too you meet cool people at the poker table, that have interesting lives and perspectives you can learn from.

Sometimes though, you sit next to somebody, and they comment on every single hand, every single runout and every single result lol, and they’ll always ask me for validation that there bad play was justified, and I’m always like “ yeah man “ LOL when really I don’t really care to talk to them I just want to win chips from them.

Had this scenario today, where I was in between two guys. They were nice and friendly, but then they started talking about golf.
Different courses, balls, clubs there favourite places to play, where they don’t like playing, pga tour liv golf,
This was all fine and well, but it dragged on for over an hour where all these two guys were talking about golf.
and I HATE GOLF lol, just brings up bad memories of me absolutely sucking at it, but listening to these two guys talk about the sport for that long would turn anybody into a golf expert.

It may of been combination of me maybe not winning a hand during this discussion or maybe being card dead during this period as well. I just thought it was kind of interesting that I just want to check out of the conversation and not have to listen to it anymore lol.

Haha, well you observed a few things in yourself. Perhaps you can find a way to zone out of something like that and have a strategy to do that whenever it happens.
Like listening to soothing music with headphones or a podcast or Audiobook (that doesn't distract you from your game of course). Its gotta be something really lightweight where it is basically more like background noise.
This does not work for everyone, so you gotta experiment and find something that allows you to check out in such moments.
After all you came there to talk to Jack, but not to hear Frank and Martin go off on some random topic... meaning, you did not come there for their entertainment or to be there psychologist. You can be nice, but it is also ok to check out if something is totally not for you.. in a friendly way of course :)

Yeee I’ve thought about this! I sometimes listen to music when I play at home, sometimes get in a “zone” if you will. Although I haven’t done it live, I like hearing the sounds of the game, or I players announce their actions. You pick up on things that other players talk about during and after hands they play sometimes. You may get a read into how they think or act upon a specific spot.
It reminded me though in Vegas one time I was playing a cash game, a new table had started and the dealer announced “ okay fellas, I have two rules at my table, no talks of politics or religion at the table “
And I can understand the sentiment, these type of topics discussed at the table can upset people of conflicting view points or things going on in the world that can take away from people trying to just enjoy playing cards.
