9:00 on a brick river do you jam? I know having hearts is bad, but he would likely have bet his flush draws on the flop and his range seems pretty capped.
29:20 do you ever consider a lead on the turn? Would it be better for a lead if opponent was in later position or was a little looser?
9:00 I was hoping I still had the sim saved to check it but I don't. I think your logic makes a lot of sense though. Having hearts shouldn't count against us as much in this spot, not having a K or Q seems good for targeting KK and QQ (which figure to check back more frequently than JJ-88). We shouldn't have too many better bluff candidates, mainly just T9s and 98s, perhaps 55-33.
29:20 yes I think we get some leads here, there's a good chance I rolled for it in game. I think it's a bit better on the 2 vs later position/looser range (since opponent still won't have 2x) but still very viable as is. Note that opponent polarized a little with b50 flop size, so should have fewer 88-55 and a greater proportion of "autofolds" than if he went for small range bet.
14:45 I am surprised to see IP playing block size. Much different than cash games where IP almost never bets less than 50%. I liked how you played JhTh this hand. Looks like a strong but non nut hand or potential bluff since you left chips behind. Looks like solver just likes playing X-B-B with entire range (16:10).
16:45 What does BB defense look like vs these 3x opens?
26:15 MP 2.6x open and CO flat. I'm a bit surprised to see SB folding KJs KTs QJs QTs JTs here. I thought these hands would wanna flat in the SB 34bb effective.
35:00 you jammed JTo which seems fine off 13bb. But I was wondering why we don't just raise 2bb here? previous hand AcJc off 12bb from Ep you chose to min raise saying you want a bit more action with that hand. I think I'm only playing 2bb open until I get down to around 7bb or so as my standard. It makes sense to jam some off suit hands. I'm playing soft live low stake tourneys $200 range.
14:45 I think block size is an ICM thing here, in ICM we just overall want to put fewer chips into the pot and using a block size delay strategy rather than a more polar big bet strategy is one way to accomplish that. And thanks, yeah big range advantage in this particular line on this runout.
16:45 Defending vs 3x opens is not something I've tried to solve for in MTTs, that said I think step 1 is determining what we think of the opening range. In my experience some players doing this will have a stronger range, some will have a similar to normal range, and some will just be blasters with a too wide range. Based on my opponent's stats I would expect a pretty tight range and would defend with a tight strategy. As shown in the replayer we are getting about 2.5-1 to defend; against a min this would be 4.2-1 so the difference is huge. I would be folding stuff like 76o, QTo, A9o here and being more cautious with suited combos as well, still playing jams with stuff like pocket pairs and perhaps some suited broadways.
26:15 I think it's mainly a function of a tightish opening range and tight flatting range (at least in solverland) plus the ICM effect.
35:00 For one thing we play many more jams in CO with 3 live hands remaining rather than in EP, just as overall strategy. I think JTo specifically here is close between both as the GTOW chart indicates. One main benefit of jamming is forcing folds from some hands that dominate us, and connectors retain equity relatively well vs calling range. Also our blockers aren't great for forcing folds in the min line. I think KTo is relatively better min and JTo a relatively better jam, but close between both options.
36:40 I'm not sure I'm cut out for tourneys. I don't think I defend Q7o at any stack size with Q8o being my threshold usually. Looking at wizards range for 2.1bb open and big blind defense is mind blowing. I simply don't have the postflop skill set to defend this wide.
Hands like this only defend in lower ICM situations typically, but they certainly want to in some spots against LP. I have a GTOW drill for BB defense in MTTs and find that helpful for practicing.
43:20 QTo on KK8cc-7x do you think most tourney spots are barreling these 2 overs with low SDV in a B25-B50 line? Solver used B75. I personally prefer B50 in a lot of these spots. B75 is nice when you have value because its more of a geo2 spot. Where B50 leaves a 1 SPR. On the river ace I like to triple on a "scare card" that makes more 8x 7x indifferent from bluff catching and give up on brick rivers.
Looking back at it I think closer to b75/geo2 is nice, we can still sometimes get river jams with QQ-99 on bricks I think? I do think it more efficiently challenges BB's range than my approach with b50/SPR 1
