Great video. Really puts thing in perspective in regards to how valuable it is to play lower variance and essentially a waiting game for good spots. Thank you for your work, hope to see more from you.
Great video, pretty interesting the low-variance line considering the edge you had in the table. I have some doubts:
9:45 - Can't we lead turn as a semi-bluff? We should call all of our 5x to his cbet-size, we block A5, we have much more 5x and considering he'll check back almost 100% of his range we could lead 5x in this turn. Then if he calls and we miss the flush we make a big size polarizing our range, aiming to make he herofold top pair or overpairs.
12:40 - If he calls turn and the river is a T, would u prefer turning AT into a bluff or check back?
24:26 - Would you consider shove 66 instead of raise/calling? This way we make julou fold a lot of his re-shoving hands like broadways that would be flipping against our open. From an ICM perspective I'm afraid that flipping with 66 for 20bb would not be a great spot considering there are 3 short stacks.
9:45: Yes, we can lead as a semi-bluff sometimes but he is never going to fold any pair to us(maybe like bottom pair with no straight draw(A2,A3) on the turn, which puts us in a sticky spot on brick rivers because though we do have more 5X, we are also at the bottom of our range and will be forced to fire a second barrel. If I am comfortable leading 2 pair on this turn(which in this situation I probably wouldn't be), then I like your line. On river, if checked through on turn, I can bet with the bottom of my range comfortably because I would play all 2 pair, all sets, most of my straights this way. This controls the size of the pot and allows me to develop a better image of his hand.
12:40: The T is an interesting card. It's close. The reason I would most likely check back is because we get him to fold some of his 9X hands on the turn, so what is left are a lot of Jx and Qx hands, and some pair+ straight draw hands that may or may not fold two pair on the river. Also considering he has all of his KQ and KJ combos, and will presumably check to us on the river most of the time, I think trying to bluff here would be a losing play. On this run out I don't think we get enough folds.
66: Yes, shoving is definitely an option. If we shove we lose the ability to dominate Julou's 22-55 and I don't think we are ever getting him to fold 77-88 if we shove, so we lose money there. I wasn't as worried about HUGO putting ICM pressure on us in this spot as he was playing pretty passively pre-flop up to this point. If he was going to put a lot of pressure on us then I think this makes for a better shove. I don't think it's wrong to play it either way.
Thanks for this. Considering your low variance line, would it be fair to say the general population 3 bets too frequently? Or at least say that decent players three bet too much at mid stakes and should leverage their abilities more by going to the flop with smaller pots? Also, what did your HUD read by the end of the tourney?
I really find myself going deeper in tournies when my 3 bet is lower. Bit of a general question, but would be interested in what you have to say regarding the population tendencies today.
Great questions. I think people are better(more efficient in terms of sizing ) at 3 betting today than they were 2 years ago. I do think that they still struggle postflop in these pots. I do think better players should be incentivized to see a lot of flops. An example of this would be a limping strategy versus 25 B.B. stacks in the blinds.
Kinda late to this vid but here's my question: you chose to 3bet the AA at 19:50 saying "we do have a lot of bluffs here". Except we really don't. You said it yourself later on in the video when the same spot came up and we had 66 (21:44) and you elected to fold. We don't ever want to 3bet fold here so if we 3bet, it's with the intention of getting it in vs the opener right? You mention 3betting with 77 or 88. Are we calling it off every time if we 3bet him and he jams? If so, what's the bottom of our 3betting range vs middle stack UTG open? AT, AJ? 77?
If we're never 3betting as a bluff doesn't it then make more sense to flat the AA hoping that Hugo decides to make a move since we can have weaker hands in our flatting range that are susceptible to a squeeze? Are we never flatting in this spot ever and should play our entire range as a 3bet with the intention of getting it in vs UTG open?
3 bet folding here isn't bad if we think the player will overfold preflop or play poorly post. A hand like 66 is in a tough spot because it doesn't play well in a 4 bet pot and we block none of his r getting range. I'd rather 3 bet fold a hand like KJo here because at least we block some pairs that are going to shove pre, and if he does call with a hand like 8s or 9s we have some post flop playability.
Throwing AA into a flat range here is awesome, though I wish there were more stacks behind us that would be incentivized to shove rather than flat.
I don't think we should play our whole range as a 3 bet here, because there are some hands that I'd like to see the flop with. KQ suited, some AQo, TT sometimes(im 3 betting this mostly). Maybe even a hand like AJo is a call here sometimes depending on tendencies of UTG
at 35.30 the A4 UTG hand. Would it be better to raise to 2.3-2.5x pre to incentivise the bb to either ship it in pre or fold to realise more equity? Or does that appear obvious to the other two players, who could 3 bet you more profitably knowing what your angle is, especially if you don't often open bet so high.

Hi. I'm new on the site and i watched all your 4 videos. I enjoy it a lot and i love your aproach and how you explain it.
Is it possible to see the KQo in SB in final table to see with icmizer when we have to call? Thanks and good win! :)
Thank you for the kind words l! At what minute marker was the KQ hand?
Thank you!
