Thanks Keiran, I enjoyed this video greatly. I am excited to see what direction you take things from here. I am also interested in the progress of your new branch of psychotherapy, I agree there is room for improvement in this field, though in my opinion, solution focused therapy has been highly effective in my practice . ( I am a family physician with an interest in bariatrics. )
I welcome you bringing to light mental health issues which I would suggest are least as prevalent, if not more so in the poker playing community. Anxiety, depression, substance abuse are all common, and I believe it very important to try to remove the stigma of talking about these issues.
Keep up the good work! As you want some constructive criticism, I am also in the opposed category to the bad beat voice. It sounded a bit like Dana Carvey doing an impression of Jimmy Stewart. :) .
Loved it. Definitely looking forward to the next one.
Not constructive criticism but a suggestion - on the theme of mental health, I would love to hear your thoughts in a future video about the interaction between Psychology and self-sabotage at the tables.
What I mean by that is not pure Tilt, but rather a self-fulfilling expectation that you results will always trend in a negative direction or plateau at a certain fixed point - a feeling most acutely experienced during a period of positive results.
In other words, if you win 20BI at a stake, your thoughts are not "I have a positive expectation at this stake" but instead "I can't wait to see how this goes wrong and I end up back at my deposit amount and eventually at zero".
My feeling is that this has something to do with the relationship between positive self-worth and truly accepting variance, but I honestly have no idea.
I don't know if you have plans to do this, but something I'd personally be very interested in seeing is some narrower examples from previous hands you've played and how you applied (or wish you'd applied) psychology techniques in certain situations.
Great way to close the video.
A constructive point (won't even call it criticism): don't know if it's gonna be the subject of future videos, but you could give more poker'related examples, that is, show how these biases affect us poker players.
Cheers.
Thanks Zach (for everyone else -- if the bad beat voice vote is a tie, be warned that I get the deciding vote).
Sure. I'm working on an upcoming video that will tackle it in relation to poker, although it's a very long conversation to really get into it. A shortcut is to share this Einstein quote:
I do not believe in free will. Schopenhauer's words: 'Man can do what he wants, but he cannot will what he wills,' accompany me in all situations throughout my life and reconcile me with the actions of others, even if they are rather painful to me. This awareness of the lack of free will keeps me from taking myself and my fellow men too seriously as acting and deciding individuals, and from losing my temper.
I think he's right, and I think it has major consequences for psychotherapy (particularly for disorders where guilt/ self-hatred are key factors).
Thank you very much for this video and good luck in your endeavours.
PS: I'm gonna vote for losing the voice. You went from engaging & soothing (as contradictory as it may sound) to extremely irritating (as long as you had the fake voice), even if that was the intended purpose when telling that story.
Other than that, it's difficult to provide any negative feedback really. It was well structured and thorough, and although there was only one example with an actual poker board, you tied every situation to different poker aspects nicely.
Great Video, I think this whole subject is very interesting and cant wait for future videos. Not a huge fan of the Christopher Walken bad beat voice though
I vote to keep the voice...Geting far too much enjoyment from reading people crying about it for that to stop any time soon. Welcome and look forward to the next videos.
Man this was good, thanks for the effort put in making this video, help me a lot, a lot of what you talked about I already had in mine mind in some way but not organized in a way I could work on improving something. thanks.
Just found this series after your recent release, loved this video and looking forward to the rest. This type of video is something I personally have been looking for and feel has loads of value. PS +1 for keeping bad beat voice :)
Really great video and concept i love. Your voice is clear and soothing to listen to. One bit of criticism is to be more clear when making a point. You tell an interesting story or give an example but then i got lost with the whole point of it. Like the example of playing poker when suddenly an elephant storms then room. I got that the person complained about such bad luck but not really understood the whole point clear enough, so it wouldn't hurt to really make sure your viewers got the important messages. Keep up the great work!

Nice video and welcome, my only negative critique would be please no more bad beat voices :)
No more bad beat voices in the lead -- 1 vote to 0...
Really nice vid, training sites tend to use ranges that don't have much board coverage on this topic.

Thanks! Really appreciate it.
And since that was my impression of Dana Carvey doing an impression of Jimmy Stewart, I'll take that as a compliment!
Keep em coming.... Loved it!

That's an excellent (and challenging) suggestion. Thanks!
Same Uni. Cheers.
Awesome video!
Like the video and really nice touch at the end.

Bad beat voice vote 1 - 1
Very much enjoyed your video. Can you tell us a bit about what your personal endeavor is about?

Looking forward for more. Last slide can be very well applied to me, think it's very common theme among poker players.
Great Video Keiran. Enjoyed it thorougly.

Loved it, been waiting for this subject applied to poker for a long time.
