Hey Chris thanks for the video! at 21:00 you minraise ATo into patricks 2bb stack. Might this not be a spot to just go all in covering everybody, since patrick is going to call any2? This way you get the pot HU alot vs him instead of having the 2 players IP call or raise to isolate for his bounty. Or are the stacks too deep for this play? Thanks
This spot is quite complicated so I'm not going to pretend I have "The Answer" but I suspect shoving isn't great. Here's a few random points for you to think about.
The benefit of shoving:
We isolate pad's bounty as a function of our open raise at the highest frequency.
Our hand has okay equity vs everyone else and we get to realize 100% of it. (never get bluffed).
Downside of shoving:
Cannot be done at a high freq (requires either an initially somewhat strong range, or requires us to split our range into minraise and shoves).
If we just play pure shove in this spot then we miss out on a ton of potential opens.
If we play a bunch of minraises and carve out a middling region of open shoves then we polarize the open range making us vulnerable to small 3bs by the field which will be insanely profitable.
We don't really do that well when called- (we're losing a fair number of chips the times anyone but pads gets all in with us and there are sitll other bounties to play for in the tourney as well as a prizepool for cashing etc) so even though picking up pad's bounty is nice it's not the only goal for us in the tourney.
All that said, as mentioned I don't really play these so I won't pretend to have thought about this beforehand- these just represent my initial reaction. It would seem the cons outweigh the pros imo.
That being said, if someone has some sort of bounty program out there and showed me a sim saying shoving here was best I wouldn't really argue against it much.
