Hi Alex,

9:00 this was an interesting spot where we over bet 8x but block kx to induce raise s from 8x. Have you seen this also used in mp vs lp spots, or is this primarily a wide range vs wide range blind spot?
I don't think 8x gets raised as much as solver says to and betting bigger with kx will actually get called more often and would be more profitable. Higher stakes may be different.

Thanks!

Hey, I would say this mostly happens bvb where ranges are much, much wider. I do agree raising 8x IP doesn't happen much in reality at higher stakes either.

Excellent video as always Alex!

@22.00 you are mentioning 5x is the standard rfi size 45bb eff bvb. Which ranges are you referring too? GTOw seems to 3.5x and I was also using this size.

Do you think you made any changes to your game for your graph to accelerate like this compared to your first 25k tourneys?

Alex Theologis 7 months ago

Hey, if you look at the dates, I started winning more since the middle of 2019, which is when I started taking my game more seriously. I didn't play 25ks before that point, I actually only started playing them fairly recently, in the past 3 years or so. My average buyin/profit are heavily influenced by the high volume of my first few years playing poker but I would think looking at dates from 2019 onwards would be a more accurate representation.

What do you think about using ICM earlier in the tourney rather than chipEV? The chipEV ranges seem crazy wide to me coming from mostly a cash game background. Where ICM ranges seem closer to cash game ranges. I was wondering if the chipEV ranges just add more volatility to these tourneys? If you are playing in a softer tourney field is it worth it taking these small edges like defending all suited hands in the BB or limp calling T3s SB vs BB ISO?

Cash game ranges compared to ....

MTT ranges

I would advise you to familiarize yourself with the chipev ranges as if anything, the softer the tournament the wider ranges you should play as your opponents are likely to overfold/not use enough big sizings/give away hand strength tells with their patterns etc.

Rake makes you play tighter just as icm makes you play tighter due to.chips lost being more valuable than.chips earned. I never thought to compare the two though. Interesting. The whole thing reminded of worm, don't know why but "women are the rake man."

18min bluffing AhTh on Q75ccc-Kx-2c I believe Luke Johnson made a video in the past about bluffing on 4 flush boards. Using suited hands was preferred to unblock more of opponents suited hands that XC-XC-XF.

21min BTN vs SB 25bb effective I thought KQs would be a fold. This would be a fold if using ICM?

37:30 Ah8s7s-Td board 3 way facing a SB XR with A7c, my anxiety goes through the roof in this spot. In my mind this spot is under bluffed and we likely don't beat value. I know it's hard for villain to have better when they don't xr the flop, but imo they just tend to have "it." I would lean towards fold here, but feels very nitty and makes me want to throw up.

21 min : Well, it depends. "Using ICM" doesn't really mean a whole lot as you have a different type of ICM pressure when it's 30% of the field left, near the bubble, near the final table, on the final table etc not only depending on the stage of the tournament but also your stack size in comparison to other stacks. Generally, we wouldn't really fold KQs here in most cases.

37 min : I think I elaborated my thought process about his range quite a bit in the video, I hope that helped!

Great video Alex,

23:30 on monotone board bvb here, if people overfold to flop vs very small cbet, would you think just cbetting range small would be reasonable exploit strategy vs most players or would it be pushing too far?
Seems like if fold freq. went from 5% to even 10-15% there should be some bigger adjustments, at what opponent fold freq. vs 10% bet do you think it becomes range cbet 10% as good strategy?

Alex Theologis 6 months ago

I think what you are saying would be correct on some boards but that monotone one is not a good example as pretty much all continues vs small cbet are pretty natural and intuitive imo.
