Well done video! The software overview was very helpful and if you can provide the link for the spreadsheet that would be great!
Being relentless is what I need to work on most. I definitely get into my own head at times and don't do what I know I should be doing.
Just curious: when you are tracking how many tournaments you played for a give time period, do you consider each rebuy a separate tournament? If I buy into a tournament and then rebuy twice... is that 3 tournaments in your count? Thanks for the great vid.
Hey guys, glad you liked the video. Here is the link to the sheet. The file is locked from editing, so you will need to click file/make a copy on the top left and that should work. If it doesn't and I did something wrong, let me know!
Awesome video Adam! I‘m sure this is super helpful for the community.
As a follow up to the discussed topics I‘m personally curious:
Which role does rakeback play for an MTT grinder in 2024?
The recent legislation in Germany caused most sites discontinuing any loyalty / rakeback programs for german players. I think some other countries face this restriction too.
Would you have some rough insight into how much of the EV stems from rakeback as an MTT player? Is rakeback not as big of a deal for MTTs or can it make up a serious share of the EV?
Ofc appreciating to hear from any other MTT grinders too.
That is a great question and would have been a good topic for me to touch on in the video. I don't really think about rakeback much anymore since I am playing relatively low buy-ins and spreading my volume out between a few sites. I am guessing I make 1-2k a year in rakeback but I do not know the actual number. But back in like 2012-2015, when Pokerstars had the Supernova program, I used to make something like $12k-15k per year, and that was with around a $20 abi. So it can be significant if the site your playing has a good program. Even if they brought back Supernova it would be harder today with MTTs because they don't have the 180-mans running all the time like they used to.
Great video! I really enjoy these type of videos, that seemingly offer lots of 'simple' suggestions on how to approach your grind, but those suggestions are only simple once you already know them. As a cash game player who plans on playing a lot more mtt's this year, I learned a lot from this video.
Hey Adam Crawford great video, lots of good info here!
What would you recommend for live/online cash player. Most of my study is cash games Generally 1/3 and 50, 100nl online, transitioning to online mtts? In terms of the differences between the two, cash I can table select, play whenever I want to play on my own schedule, when mtts you don’t really have that luxury and you must have a certain amount of hours available to you to play. I have studied a bit of mtt play but most of my experience playing tournaments are live.
Yep, as you said, the main downsides to MTTs are the time commitments and the inability to play and stop whenever you want. The upside is softer competition and more money to be won at the lower/midstakes. I recommend studying a lot of preflop ICM spots (with something like GTO Wizard drills). For post-flop, I would study 20-30bb effective spots since you will already be more than competent at deeper stacks from your cash game background.
about Satellites I always fell that to measure their profitability we need to also add the future ROI in the target event? Basically : my initial reward for the satellite is not great but I can make much more on the event I play.
That makes sense for specific events with a large ROI potential like a Sunday Million. I wouldn't consider it much for smaller events with lower ROIs, especially since there is still a tradeoff of table space and focus when you load satellites as opposed to just normal MTTs.
Hi, I found the video very interesting, even if I didn't understand several points, because being Italian and not fully understanding English I asked the translator to help me...
If I understand correctly, analyzing the sharkscope values we can see how the highest ROI is obtained from tournaments with higher guarantees and with more members like 1500-3000 people, obviously the day we should never skip is Sunday and you are master as many tournaments as possible and then play full focus those that reach the final stages...
But if I go to the primedope variance calculator and play around with it and hypothetically compare 5k tournaments in a schedule of 300 people against one of 3000 people with an average ROI of 20%, primedope calculates a possibility for me to come out at a loss of the first case of 0.4% versus 12.3% of the second...
Is there something I don't understand? or did I make a mistake in interpreting or translating? Thank you very much and I apologize for the question which may seem stupid
Hey! The prime dope calculator is correct when it is saying you will realize your 20% ROI with less variance in a smaller field vs a larger field. But that is assuming the ROI would be the same for both of those field sizes, which is not correct. For example, you might have a 20% ROI in small field, and a 50-80%+ ROI in a large field depending on the exact field strength/structure. So your ROI will be a lot more in a large field, but it requires more variance to realize it. If you had the exact same ROI in a 300-person field as you did in a 3000-person field, then yes you would prefer to only play the 300-player fields. Hopefully that makes sense, and your question was not stupid!
17:00 if u guys want the softest games ever , go to unibets poker. Yes its very smal and garantuees are not big but my roi must be like 80% on that site. Its like im back in 2006, so many sportbet donkeys.
Just a sick video, Adam Crawford, really appreciate it. Really encouraging to see some of the tactics I've put into place mentioned here, but lots of new things I'm excited to implement as well. Would love to see anymore content you imagine would be helpful for those working on optimizing their poker career. Cheers

I just track 1x per tournament, even if I fired several bullets.

Really great video and very motivating ! Thank you !
Great video Adam, thank you! How did you identify the winningest players for the Sharkscope analysis? How many players are in the group?
Great video. Always looking for content on professionalism, uncommon and part of the 20% that makes 80%. Thank you!
