Phil Galfond aka HeyGuys resumes his series on the Nevada based WSOP.com with multiple tables of $5/$10 PLO. In this video he focuses on game flow, table dynamics, and general read-building as they relate to a weaker player at the tables.

Hello Philip.. You look and sound tiered, take it easy a bit. Anyways, about poker: you see how you were developing reads about your amount by their bet sizes, the same holds true for you when you aren’t eager to stick to the gp of potting it more. If we change our bets based on hand strength or board texture it starts to become transparent! So my question is are you still committed to executing that strategy? Also, at the 45:00 min mark when you make a wheel, but still feel beat, what was it that made you feel like he wasn’t betting worse (your words)? I think you were spot on the entire video , including the hand where you got ck raised when the flush hit- you wanted to pull the trigger but you didn’t have enough equity if he heros. I believe you were right , and he was pushing a naked blocker (sometimes even a King of hearts). In summation, do you think with higher sprs you would of made the move anyways (irrespective of our equity)? Thanks, Darren

Hey, Darrenrose32!

Also, at the 45:00 min mark when you make a wheel, but still feel beat, what was it that made you feel like he wasn’t betting worse (your words)?

Sometimes a read is hard to put into words, but as far as the non-feeling thoughts:

When I check call flop, it looks a lot like I have AA or KK, so I think he may give up on the 4 turn with a lot of bluffs. That said, it's hard for him to make a big hand here and I still think I need to call down once I river the wheel (on a card he'll bluff often if he has air).

I believe you were right , and he was pushing a naked blocker (sometimes even a King of hearts). In summation, do you think with higher sprs you would of made the move anyways (irrespective of our equity)?

Are you talking about the hand on the river where I ended up with Ace high? (timestamps like above are helpful!) In that spot, I think I just have to lose the pot. If there were any stack size to rebluff at, it would be this low one, because I don't need to risk much to push him off of his bluffs, but I just think he gets to win when he has the nut blocker and I have no pair! I can call him with any hand I bet for value if I don't believe him.

Beautiful first half although the open w 1010877 utg 5h surprised me even with the disclaimer about 101098 being the bottom of your(1010xx) open range here. Are you ever folding to 3b's? Pretty trivial, just curious.

I do have another idea or two that might be $$

The 'reads' are a goldmine. I'd LOVE to see a video compiling reads that you rely on. For example, the psychology of tilting players was one that made good sense that I never considered. I'm sure some of it would be fringe for some, but potentially exactly what others need. Certainly many 'use at own risk' warnings to be had, but those were and are what make people the highest winning regs. The intangibles. They are very based in logic but backed by instinct, and instinct is critical for players to be relevant. Sustainability as well.

Secondly, share your love of the game with us not just from an intellectual perspective! You can have personality and still be professional! I imagine there is a definitively large market for entertainment these days. I surmise a combination or slow move towards more strategy + entertainment has the potential to make your business skyrocket and be so much more sustainable, for you especially.

Care to touch on the kq89 1/2 pot bet at the end? seems like a dandy check back

Cheers!

Thanks, KYJELLY!

Great advice, and great question on the KQ98 hand. I think checking is probably better due to the ranges I'm up against - BN cold calls a lot of KKxx and BB calls with a lot of low cards (which I don't have) that connect with the wheel cards on flop.

Hey Phil. This is just me thinking out loud.
Dont you have more KK than him?
He's been pretty active and combine that he would 3bet good KK hands, and you opening all KK hands, and you have tighter range than him on BTN.
We have perfect bet/fold hand, with 8 in our hand, what do we do if the turn is 8.
Lets say we do have KK, do we really wanna check it with so many possible gutshots and some OESD possible.
I don't say betting half is bad or good just contemplating. At first it seemed good that we bet and then after we get raised, aren't we results oriented?

The question then is, do we bet polar or merged in this situation, since we are MP? (adressing theory , that in position we should bet more polar, and out of position more mergy)

Good series. This is the optimal format for you to make midstakes vids (unknown sn, new site). I wish you had recorded a bunch of footage before releasing these. I suppose with the anon tables on rio poker it won't be an issue. Congrats on the launch, always rooting for you!
