Really good one once again. My suggestion would be to alternate this series with a 6max one. Quick question. I've seen more than 500 vids from you and I was wondering one thing. Do you feel that you play much tougher HU than 6max ? Maybe its just an impression but I really feel like you play much more value heavy and solid in 6max and much more tougher in HU. I don't mean that in obvious spots like when theres more people in the hand or playing more hands in general. For some reason I feel like you make many sick reads and adjustments in HU that I don't see even close in 6max. Is this a clear strategy or just the dynamics of your game?

I'll either wrap this up or start alternating soon. Thanks for the feedback!

This is hard to answer. I'd be very curious to see what other members think, too.

I believe I'm a better HU player than 6-max player in every form of poker. This is due to my strengths (finding and adjusting to tendencies, psychology) and weaknesses (well-structured overall strategies, GTO/Math-based play).

I find that when I play 6-max, sometimes I am hyper-focused and picking up reads on individual opponents and other times I'm autopiloting and relying on surface level HUD stats. It's a lot harder for me to develop game-flow reads when I'm playing against multiple opponents and I'm not seeing every hand they play.

I do think that I'm generally more aggressive/tough in ways that deviate from GTO play when I'm HU because I'm attempting to take advantage of... for lack of a better word, my guesses.

That said, some opponents require adjustments towards being very nitty and passive. I have footage somewhere of another HU session against a pretty good opponent that I effectively decided not to bluff against!

I may not be ready to share that session for a little while :)

12:43 top right what bluffs would you have here? and are you more or less inclined to bluff this river in general?

Phil Galfond 8 years, 2 months ago

I've got plenty of potential bluffing hands in my range: Missed clubs, 25xx/35xx, 276x/2JTx, etc.

I think that I'd want to bluff A2xx and A3xx hands first, because I block a lot of his auto-calls: A5 and two pair.

I don't think I want to block a 5 due to how many 25/35/45 hands he can have, and I'd prefer not to block clubs, but I likely need to bluff the weakest varieties of hands containing those blockers.

I wouldn't want to bluff 55 (except maybe with a x/r) because the 5s make it much more likely he has a made hand.

are you more or less inclined to bluff this river in general?

I think it's a fine river to bluff in general, but I also think that I might have far too many potential bluffing candidates on this river compared to value bets, so I need to pick and choose the best ones to bluff with and give up with the rest.

Hi,

In the hand where he check raises with 105KJ...

What are you repping with your turn bet? You flatted on a very wet flop. Your hand looks alot like it is, a big draw.

Why not just realize your equity? He c-bet on a board that benefits your range, so we know he hit the board well.
