Great video! @29 min u 4b KK 3x vs hj 150 bb effective. Is that your standard 4b sizing this deep or is this just because of the fact that he is a unkown and potential fish? And if he 5b shoves wouldn't you just feel a little bit gross calling off this deep (even with KK). I just don't see people blasting off 150 bb with AKo or QQ in these positions (at fr). And what would you do with QQ and ak in this spot, just flat i guess?

Thanks.

Simon Couling 10 years, 8 months ago

My standard 4bet sizing oop is 9bb - 21.5bb, smaller ip. Yeah I went a little bigger because we are deep. AK and QQ I think I would have to flat here without any further reads.

Its super gross to be 5bet here at these limits with KK against an unknown when we have 150bb, but flatting just seemed such a nitty option. I think ultimately its much more likely he flats instead in 5betting, so the vast majority of the time its going to be a nice spot for us.

i really think that the super nut AJ of diamond at 6 min should still be a shove at least on turn. Fish wasn't going to fold so just get the money before (few) bad card falls. If the board paired or a diamond this is just 50 bb we might lost.

Simon Couling 10 years, 8 months ago

If I had any value bar the super nuts I would have shoved ott, and while I agree in this spot most fish won't bet/fold, there is definitely a chance he had total air and was going to bet/fold the turn, or pick up a pair otr that wont fold.

Your sound quality isn't up to par with the content. I have a Sennheiser PC 8 which is probably the cheapest usb headset with very clear mic sound. Looks pretty similar to PC 36 which might be a new model of the same thing. Vids are obv watchable and all that but I think it would be a pretty good improvement :)

Hi, really good video, but I've got some questions.

1st. @28min, REG is isolating FISH and you fold AJo on button, I think we play good with this hand againts their ranges and have position, so it's an easy call here. Why did you fold ? and what's yuor calling ranges here on those positions ?

2nd. @ 30 min, you SQZ with TT vs EPs probly vs 2 REG players . don't you think it's a lil bit to loose, which worse hands will call you at those positions ? and @ 33 min you've got TT on SB and youre just flatting, why that if you're OOP here now ?

3rd. @ 35 min, don't you think you should Cbet higher OTF , it's a very drawy board which is often connected with his hand and we shoud get max value from OESD/GS/FD, plus we are not blocking A club  ?

4th. CAn you explain why you make such a small sizings ? I play NL 50 and as I see most ppl up to NL 100 are opening with 3bb and steal with 2.5bb or 2bb . And you're opening 2.5x fro any position, expect button, also when you make Squeeze vs 2 opponents, you're sizing is same as most ppl who just 3bet, and when you 3bet @ 39 min w/ QQ you make it only with 7.5bb , aren't you giving ppl to good odds to call you with any pocket they open to hit a set ?

5th. @ 40min w/ A8s- don't we have good odds to call ? or if we have blocker can't we just SQZ for bluff ?

1 - AJ is def a call, I tihnk cos I had a coule other hands going on while I was talking I lost focus a bit.

2 - The opener was 2 tabling which I would generally consider to be of the more fishy player. The guy who called the open I am unsure about, but I figured theres a decent chance one of the isnt a reg. On that basis I think the 3-bet is absolutely fine. Ve two regs, 3-betting TT here would be too loose.

3 - Im assuming you are talking about the AA hand. My c-bet sizing is super std here - 60-70% pot is what I would do with my entire range vs a reg. By going bigger we might get him to fold some of his weaker draws (like KQ), which wouldn't be preferable seeing we do very well against hands like that.

4 - My sizings are completely dependent on stack sizes, opponent, and whether im in or oop. Going 2.5x to 7.5x is super standard ip. Its fine to let him set mine oop, esp as we often wont have a value 3-betting hand and we easily win the pot post flop when he misses his set.

5 - Our odds arent quite good enough. If the open was min or we are in the bb we would be able to call. Also, I would call A2-A5s here as they have better equity multi-way.

Good video, you explain things really clearly. At 43mins with the 77: What are you thoughts on turning your hand into a bluff on the river? And sizing it anywhere from $11 to as big as $18? You seemed very certain that you were beat and his sizing is so rarely a hand worse than yours.

Simon Couling 10 years, 8 months ago

Yeah I think turning your hand into is an ok idea in the sense that we are so often beat and he never has a 9x with this sizing. However, we rep poorly and have zero blockers. The other problem is we are trying to get him to fold a Jx a lot of the time, and when he makes it this sizing he is more likely to get stubborn to a raise as he perceives himself to be inducing a bluff otr.

What do u think about checking turn with KK to kinda disguise our hand @29 min only bad river cards r A,Q and maybe club.

Simon Couling 10 years, 8 months ago

I prefer betting as those are bad river cards not just because we can lose to them, but also we lose action vs his QQ, JJ, TT etc. It serves good protection value as well as the fact if hes bad enough he wont fold any op here.

Great video Simon, could you elaborate on what particularly you base your reads on when deciding if a player is a reg or a recreational player?

Simon Couling 10 years, 8 months ago

If I have some hands on him I will look at his vpip, and/or if hes limping or making bad sizings. If I dont have any hands I will look at the number of tables hes playing and if he has a stack under 100bbs.

Thanks so much for this video Simon, it really is a breath of fresh air! I'm so bored of watching vids where people are either super boring or going way too fast and not explaining things. You seem to have struck the perfect balance, please keep it up!! :)

Great video really enjoyed it, one question though;
Would you give us any preflop opening ranges from like EP and MP as those are not really table dependant? I saw you opening 66 from UTG and stuff, which some ppl dont recommend?
Also you seem to open for 2.5x as standard opening size, which is on the smaller size in the current nl25 games i know - so i guess you can open wider with that, but how wide exactly?
Cheers, and thanks for the great videos. I've seen 5 from you now and loving it!
keep up the good work and excuse my bad english

I don't like the raise on the river with KK vs the min checkraise on that KQT board because u might fold the best hand when villain overplays bottom set like 555 or 666 and u talk urself into folding because wer obv thinking it's nearly always J9s or AJs

Kish 9 years, 2 months ago

What's your limp-iso raising size?
I do 4x vs 1 limper and 4x+1 vs multiple limpers. Are these the old-school sizings? K9s at 32:46

I'd love a video with your ranges from ep/mp/lp. I could reverse engineer them over time of course. I'm just a nit trying to learn your tag ways sensei!
