Solid post. Good 3 parter and good discussions about your play in these spots, I agreed with all of your decisions in this one specifically. Thanks Phil.

its too short! interesting hands though thanks. i think jamming on the turn w dgutter+fd is questionable and can only be justified because of the sizing tell tbh. If he made it bigger would you still jam?

Phil Galfond 9 years, 2 months ago

I didn't mean for it to be this short! Next one will be 45-60.

Yeah, the sizing read was a big part of my decision to shove. Against a ck/pot, I guess I'm not sure. Visibility with my hand is really poor, so shoving may end up working out as well as or better than calling. In the moment I would've probably called or shoved, but it's very much a math question rather than one we should trust my intuition on.

just throwing this down as a fun fact. Say you're in a 3way pot like at the 6:20 mark and you are skattefar spot playing only 2 tables at a time, if you fast fold table 3, will you be dealt on table 1 like we see in the video? With that in mind, you'd know that he fast folded table 3 even though the action is not to him yet.

I remember having this same thought and looking into it. I forget how they do it, but they have a method for preventing us from getting this info.

Super basic question... What are the reasons for squeezing JT97ss in bb vs bn open and sb call? This is kind of a standard spot and I usually squeeze it too, but honestly I'm not sure if I can make a compelling argument for why I should. We're not pushing an equity advantage, we don't have much pre-flop fold equity against most players, and our hand flops okay but not amazing in a three-way pot. Strategically this is a spot where we probably want to squeeze a lot (bn open, sb flat) so maybe this hand just works well enough?

Phil Galfond 9 years, 2 months ago

We are up against a couple of weak ranges, so it feels right to squeeze a relatively wide range of good/playable hands. That said, I agree that we aren't pushing an equity advantage and we don't have much preflop FE.

HU pots are a lot easier to wrap your head around, but as pots go multiway and SPRs decrease, board coverage and "playability" become less and less valuable.

I still believe this is a good squeeze because their disconnected hands will have to fold a lot of flops or potentially get it in bad against us when we flop decently, and we gain some FE on certain boards. Stacks are still deep enough and the playability of our hand still has a lot of value. That said, I don't know how to go about proving my educated guess.

Nice detailed in depth commenting on you play thx.
to get exploited here on the turn? because you're kind of capped from having fra very nutted hands, when checking back the flop and as you said you have very few deuces here on the turn, seems like like we could be expoited by a merged c/r range from villian and we really do nothing about it.?

Phil Galfond 9 years, 2 months ago

We are a bit capped here and IF we are going to bet often when checked to, he has a lot of incentive to x/r (and never bet) with a wide range of value/semibluffs. We need to make sure we don't bet too often with hands like KQT9 and AA54 and things like that which don't need much protection and aren't getting two streets of value too often.

Our range should be comprised of any 2x+, some non-SD value semibluffs, and some of our Tx+ (but only a bit). We will have to call x/r's with some of the Tx+ hands to prevent him from making some very effective bluffs.

Being that I'm more of a live player as online opps are few where I live, I'd like to see more full ring vids if possible. I'm sure there are some adjustments to be made and especially in the first few positions. I know it's a slower game online, but your thoughts on play in that format would be greatly appreciated.
