Nice video, Iain. I'm looking forward to you delving more into this 4-bet topic.
I play a lot of live poker, mostly 2-5. The player population is fairly loose and passive. There is some but not a ton of light 3-betting, and a 5-bet is almost always a very strong hand. Any thoughts of how to adjust against such players? Does it make sense to 4-bet light in a game where there isn't much light 3-betting? My feeling is, there are some spots where you could still 4-bet light against these players, because a lot of the time they will fold a hand like QQ or JJ to later pressure, and will "tell you" from their actions when they have AA or KK. So I mix in an occasional 4-bet with hands like small suited aces. Any thoughts on adjusting to live loose-passive types who don't 3-bet light a lot?
Can crush 2/5 live and only ever 4! AA -- not saying its optimal but not so far off. Most 3! ranges are so tight (from non-pros) and they are not folding KK and AK or even QQ. But generally just use a linear range for value and decide how to construct it based on your knowledge of the opponent. The 3! strategies of live players are wildly diverse and very rarely balanced / polarized.
Hey, the main adjustment against players that do not three bet light is to open wider in all positions. If you are not being punished by three bets then you can open wider. No it does not make sense to 4-bet light against players that only 3-bet strong ranges, you should reduce your value 4-bet and bluffing range.
Hey, I mostly open the low pockets unless there are aggressive 3 bettors in position against me. As i said in a comment above the main adjustment in games where there is a lower amount of 3-betting is to open wider
You mentioned 3betting more often and flatting less often pre flop as an adjustment to high rake. Have you considered switching to a 3x open size also as an adjustment to high rake? Phil Galfond alluded to this in the essential NLHE pro view video he just posted but didn't go deep on the idea so I'd love to hear what you think. Seems like a good way to take down more unraked pots pre flop.
Hi, increasing open raise size is a reasonable adjustment but i don't think you should underestimate how much people overfold against a smaller open size. If you look at piosolver charts for BTN vs BB for a 3x vs a 2.2x sizing the 3x is "easier" for population to get to as a defence range. You can take advantage of the fact people will overfold vs the smaller size.
Hi Zache86, sorry that you feel the content is repeated, I tried to plan the videos to have a theory concept and a liveplay section. I'm still deciding on my 2018 goals and i should be posting in the thread here: http://www.runitonce.com/chatter/new-years-resolution-sale-2018-goals/
Not to endlessly say "the solver does X" but PIO only calls AJo a small % of the time and given villains tend to under 3Bet from the blinds i think its fine to fold it CO vs BB
Hi, lain
Thanks for your video. I want to ask your CO vs BB 4bet range which you pick up from A2s to A7s instead of ATs to AQs, why? I would like to know the reason since I believe ATs-AQs are better?
Piosolver preflop solutions prefer the lower suited aces and call suited broadways. Its because when we are in position we want to polarise our range a bit more as it puts a lot of pressure on the OOP range. If we 4bet IP with too many suited broadways we lose too much when we get shoved on and have to fold
At 24:00. I prefer flatting into SB 3bet range. I think AA plays a great equity against SB 3 bet range, we can gain more value with postflop play. Also we have position advantage and sometimes induced UTG 4 bet squeeze with worse hand like TT+ plus.
If we 4 bet at that spot. In 50z pool, I tend to think BB has only 3% 4 bet range which is really strong. I would like to fold my JJ,AQs type of hands that behind of 3% 4bet range.
Just share my opinion:D
Really Enjoyed the video. Keep up the great content..
On the Theory examples you made.. you have 4B the suited Ax hands half the time.. Are you doing it by a RNG when making ur decision so if it comes up say less than 50 u 4B and more than 50 u fold..or do you say okay im only 4B Spades and Clubs today?
I enjoy the Theory/mixed type of videos, That being said i think it would be more beneficial to do theory at the start then show some Hand history review showing spots/situations that actually cover the Theory concept. I think a live play of 30-40 mins you dont get much situations in which the spots come up unless your doing a video on say Cbetting the flop or turn.. or calling down light ECT.
That being said im looking forward to the next video
Like the content and disagree with the last poster- I think it's better to see the live play as opposed to cherry-picked examples. Helps the viewer get a feel for how often this situations actually come up.
I liked the theoretical side of the video helping me conceptualise spots I’m in quite frequently where I got to admit I’m a little lost sometimes. Either deciding to flat or 4bet and by that time I’ve got way less time to think about sizing as the shot clock has already diminished and started flashing. One thing I notice in my games is that when I’m facing a fourbet it’s often a ridiculously large size and there’s just no point continuing unless I’m very nutted. So that’s leads me to think I should be more observant of my opponents and construct a 3betting strategy around their tendencies.
I also got coaching with you about four years ago, I have lost your contact details and recently tried to find your YouTube channel again with no luck. Good to see you’re still kicking about the coaching scene

very nice~~

Nice vid.
Are you opening low pocket pairs from EP all the time? What about A7dd at 17min10sec? Which frequencies do you usually use?

Is every releasing vid of yours gonna be old or repeated? Don't mean to be rude, but are you still on poker or did you quit?

Glad to hear you are still on the streets...to be honest, you are one of the only two essential pro whose videos i usually watch.
Having said this, your last vids have been recorded ages ago (still supernova program on PS) and even on this stakes 'trends'/metagame changes.
Axs and AJo seems a pretty standard call to me versus a 3bet from BB at the CO.
Not to endlessly say "the solver does X" but PIO only calls AJo a small % of the time and given villains tend to under 3Bet from the blinds i think its fine to fold it CO vs BB
Hi Iain,
great video.
I don't know if this is a moot point, but what adjustments would you make vs shorter stacked opponents?
Smaller sizing's, more polarised ranges as opponents are more incentive to shove preflop and deny equity at shorter stack depths.

yes i have an RNG as part of my starshelper settings. Thanks for the additional feedback!

Iain Salter When would you start 4bet bluffing? Which 3betting percentage gives you incentive to do so, 7%+?
folding 99 to 1/2 pot cbet????
He explained why he folded in the video. He thought the villain’s range in that spot mostly consisted of Ax.
Thanks, nice video.
I have a more technical question, how can I show the SPR, Effective Stack, Pot Odds etc. on the table?
Hi ian,
