glad it seems to be a concept that you guys wanna see more of. I already made a 2nd part. Since it was well received I will go ahead and make part 3 of it to end this little series.

min 32 w 22. You said it's ok to overbet the river here, cuz we can xback twice here with some Tx, not sure if you missed that , but in the hand hero bet 1/3 pot OTT which i doubt many of our Tx hands wanna do. What do you think? Anyway we have the bottom of our range, so maybe it's fine to bluff here with some freq.

Zaza 9 years, 1 month ago

i dont think there's anything wrong with checking some tx twice here. In fact we shouldn't be betting this turn that frequently cos bb should still have some traps here and check raise quite frequently vs delaycbets. He simply has too many good candidates that wanna check turn and have a really good spot for a check raise. The river is pretty standard once the 10 pairs since we now have no sdv whatsoever with our hand. It's also fine to bet a regular size here, but honestly it comes down to how u construct ur checking back ranges on the flop here.

Thanks for the good first review Zaza :)

@13min - This was a limped pot if that changes your mind about calling flop.

@31min - I did delay cbet 22 for small sizing to get protection here, but I think the river bluff is pretty clear for either line.

@34min - I like to use a polar raising range in this spot vs reg limps (I did know he wasn't a fish), do you think that's a mistake?

@45min - I agree about value betting larger on this river and I was sure I did until I changed at the last second haha

@52min - I think it's pretty reasonable to only value bet Kx+ here, I wasn't sure what bet size would be best for that range but it tends to be smaller for me on monotone boards in HU since villain can still have any flush and always has good equity against my thinner vbets. Agreed about the river decision, I don't really think I have any EV in checking but I also have weaker bluffs that will be more successful by letting him fold AsX on river.

Kevin, you two guys are geniuses! great idea man! looking forward to see the HU match vs Zaza! thank you very much for this and Gl at the tables!

My pleasure Kevin!
@31min Definitely agree that it becomes a bluff for both lines. When checking and betting turn we should turn this into a bluff as most underpairs to the board. We should also show up with some 10x and overpairs taking both lines on the flop and on the turn.

@34 min: it really depends on how they construct their limping range, a lot of regulars have quite poorly constructed limping ranges, since its not very easy to build one properly. There should be a lot more mixing going on than there is in reality. So that being said, I dont mind including these complete trashy hands from time to time.

@52min: I think we should be betting a more polarized range on the river. It should be 2pair plus. Once the flop goes check call the vast majority of players dont have a check raising range on the turn which should makes us wanna bet slightly bigger on the turn. We can still build a range comprised of 2 betsizes but the bigger one should be the dominant one. If sb has flop or turn check raising ranges this should definitely influence our betsizing. If u want to bet a more depolarized turn range than betting a smaller size is gonna become better, but I dont think that it will have a higher ev to start betting alot of 9x for thinn value in this spot. there's definitely value in checking back and bluffcatching blank rivers. We will also be protected on some river spades.

About that note @51 minute, i agree that the 8 is a good card for the bb but if we decide to lead here as the bb how do you guys think we should balance our range and what kind of size we should use !? Because i assume we cant lead just 8x and bluffs for a big size because we are capped when we check and if we start betting jx we have to pick a smaller sizing !? How a balanced leading strategy whould look in a spot like this and what we should try to acomplish with it !?

Zaza 9 years, 1 month ago

we should be leading a bigger size. It shouldnt be too hard to balance ur range here. You just gotta make sure u dont lead all of ur 8x and 4x. I would roughly mix it up by leading 40% of the time. If you want to lead the river for a small size some % of the time I would suggest to do it with 4x for the most part and some small % of 8x to not be too attackable by raises.
By leading you wanna avoid it to go check check too often, because the button shouldnt be betting this river very often at all. This is the reason we wanna introduce a leading strategy.
Something to consider in this spot though is that we should introduce a small leading strategy on the turn which will influence the amount of 4x 8x jx combos we get to the river with. When we never lead turn for a small size we will have to fold some of the weaker 8x in our range on the turn. Which means we wont be able to build as of an effective river leading strategy. our leading frequency will be lower given we simply have less nutted hands in our range, which makes sense. hope this helped you understand it a little better.
