30:30 bottom right replayer -- what do you think about gavz call of your click-back on the turn with Q964 (gutter and backdoor hearts). he must have a plan to bluff certain turns bc his raw equity is pretty bad... even if he is being laid a good price. any idea what his turn plan might be?

I think his play is okay. My range is super polarized, so it just comes down to how often he thinks I'll have bluffs. If I am bluffing and don't turn a bd draw, I'll be check-folding, so he has some potential to take down the pot in addition to his few outs.

If I check on a brick I'm assuming he'd shove, given that he wouldn't bet small with any real hand with 50% pot left. I'm not sure how many hands I'd be checking at that SPR to check-call. Probably in the moment I wouldn't have had any, so his play would've worked against my bluffs. In theory (and practice), I should definitely add some check-calls to punish his floats, and I actually think it won't hurt me to do so because he'll probably shove almost every hand when checked to anyways (in a vacuum).

Does anyone think a video about monotone boards is a good idea? I know you frequently say something like "We could talk for hours and hours about monotone boards and its tough to get anywhere..." but, I really like your videos devoted to a concept where you go over 10 or so hands, like your raising turns or playing 3 bet pots videos. I dunno, i can see that might be a tough video or an odd one where the answer to everything is "it depends". But I know I would enjoy it!

This will require A LOT of prep, but it might be good for me to do anyways. I don't think I play these spots properly from a theoretical perspective. I tend to play them much more exploitatively, based on my opponent.

I'd love if someone would make a video on this too :)... I'll need to put in a lot of thought and work if it's gonna be me.

38:00, your equity vs following hands:
AQKT- 49%
KTsAQ-37.26%
AA
*- 24%.
6%-39.95%.
If you weight it as being more likely that he has just an ace given his sizing the play is good as you need 37% to break even.

It IS somewhat close but showing it down is good anyway since it stops 89TJ potting flop which might be profitable if you fold everything. Still is profitable even if you do call this though with 42.59%.

Do you stack off any ace in this situation (EG AQhTJc?) against this sizing?

Thanks for running these numbers!

My intuition tells me that it's really close with AQJTc, and it's obviously going to be heavily reliant on the accuracy of my sizing read. The problem is that I don't even do well vs. AKxx. With AKxx myself I think I have to get it in (given my read), but it's so hard to say when we are relying on an assumption which eliminates the hands that destroy us.

The sizing read, and our read on an opponents preflop 4bet range can drastically change the EV of our decisions with Axxx. When we run equity calcs, it's important to look at how bad our play becomes if our reads are slightly off - and then if they are somewhat or way off. I like to combine those weighted EVs to get a better idea of my expected expected value :)

I was digging through some older videos and rewatching some... I must say, I really enjoy the ProView: Phil Galfond Reviews Leo Nordin, $5/$10 HU PLO Deep w/ Antes series.

Very interesting to see the deliberate note-taking on the villian in order to develop an exploitative game-plan through subtle adjustments.

I see above that you have access to limited footage atm, but this type of series where you are reviewing HU play (whether it be yourself in real-time or after, or someone else) and developing a counter-strategy is definitely my favorite. Upvote for this style of video in the future!

As always, thanks Phil :)

@37min, any chance of folding pre OOP to the 4bet? If not, are there any hands you would ever 3b/fold in these positions with these stacks? (I'm guessing no...)

Just seems like you got a really good/above avarage flop and it was still close whether you wanted to get it in, I doubt our equity is better on a T72 flop for example.

im no PLO expert, only been playing this game for a couple years, currently grindin 3-6 to 10-20. however I think ive seen some really spewy spots pop up from some of the regs.

  1. the hand where yarny gets 3bet by AA72 and flop goes A72, yarny had A398. preflop and flop seem standard. turn comes a King bringing 2 FDs. and yarny decides to call down turn and river, which i find really bad (not being results oriented) on the turn yarny has to hope villain has QJTx with a FD at worst which has decent equity against yarny, every other value hand has him crushed!

  2. the hand where Phil flops the nuts with spade redraw on A23 holding 4578 vs a gutterball that gavz had. i thought thats was rly bad play by gavz since theyre simply not deep enough. how can he call the small re-raise on the turn with a gutter when he should expect Phil to be shoving the turn very often.

  3. lastly, the hand where phil 3bets yarny with KK65 and they get it in on the T43dd flop, i think both checking back the flop and cbetting it are close, but i rly hate getting it in on the flop, when facing the C/R id just call and see what happens on the turn with position that deep.

sorry for not putting in the time in which the hand took place but if u watched the vid u prolly know the hands im talking about since theyre the more interesting hands that came up. im starting to think some of these players arent as amazing as some ppl may think they are. too much fancy play syndrom or are these hands standard?
