:15 with QJ how wide do you think he should be calling vs your x/r here? Any pair with a gutter or better?
8:00 why does him not bluffing many kings make you want to call with a king here?
9:50 KJ on a brick river like the 2 of spades how thin are you willing to triple here?
thanks
@:15, it's probably very tight, like pair+gutter+BDFD or something, 2PR+.
@8: If he isn't bluffing many Kx or 6x, my hand unblocks his bluffing range and slightly blocks some slowplayed PR+ hands with the 6/K.
@9:50, something like KT+ for a >2/3 pot sizing. It depends how many 2PRs we think he raises on turn; I think most players call 2PR nearly always and raise turned sets/straights, a bit of kings up and bluffs, so I feel Ok going fairly big on river with my stronger Kx.
U seem to always hinge ur (close) decisions on cardremoval, I was wondering if u assign some value to that blockingeffect in terms of equity? If so, how much?
Try to think in EV, not equity. Equity is win % at showdown range vs range ex betting, which isn't useful.
If I think a hand class is a mixed strategy, I'll often consider my blocking effects as the next most important piece of information to consider. At the end of the day, every combo has blocker effects changing the opponent's range that are important to consider, but if I have say a set, I don't need to think much about them because I know I'm betting anyways.
So do u have a ballparknumber to assign in terms of EV-increase due to ur blockers? I guess it depends on the specific blockers (Ax i.e.) and the cardremoval effect on the range... Its not clear to me why u always have blockers in the forefront, in terms of high priority considerations without really quantifying that effect (out loud)... Could u elaborate on ur process? Or give a hint? Thank you for doing this.
There is no ballpark EV change for blockers. It depends on what you're blocking and the size and composition of villain's range.
Say you are facing a bet from a villain who's value range is only a royal flush and he balances that appropriately with bluffs. Your EV of calling with a bluff catcher with no blockers is 0. Your EV of calling with a blocker is the entire pot + his bet.
Yes, so thats what I am trying to point out. I am not arguing that blocker effects have the same EV, Im saying: because the value of our blockers differs alot due to RvRi, shouldnt we quantify more how big that blocker effect is in every spot IF we place so much emphasis on it in terms of swinging close decisions into one or another direction?
Ben I think even u said urself in a video lately that the blockersgame works alot better in PLO and that NLH is so much more of a handreading game.
Doesn't this notion discourage u somewhat of emphasizing blockers to hinge close (mixed) decisions on?
I get that blockers are a good randomizer/frequency controller but nuancing that value seems really necessary if we know that villains are not holding up their end of the equilibrium strategypair.
Yes, I think it's reasonable to play more exploitatively as well and use blocker effects less. This will make you win more if your reads are on average worth more than the EV distance between the explo line and the GTO line. I'm reluctant to use this approach against my regular opponents because knowing when I'm being counterexploited can be difficult.
