Had to do a double take on this one. However I'm pretty sure that you cannot turn a jack into a bluff on this board run out unless you are specifically trying to make him fold a pair in his hand. Any hand with a jack in it is still better than his high card hand. Your KQJ9 would be KJJJ4 whereas his AK hand is AK444 so you have better trips. A jack would only be a bluff if you were trying to make him fold a pair in his hand. I think that makes his call bad.

Thanks for correcting this. Obviously big brain fart by me because of live situation. Now when seeing that river is a jack :) , he's river call is way too optimistic.
Luckily in the heat of the moment he likely made the same oversight :)

Don't you think it's better raising flop small or just flatting?

All options are good and fine, depends how you build your overall game plan. Raising small is always interesting option and gives us room to have bluffs in our range aswell , but you need to keep very good balance if you start doing so here. Like the small raise play overall, but in 3 betted pot i would usually like to be deeper when doing so, or would like the board to be locked..

If you're not potting with this hand preflop on the button, then what are you potting it with??
