Hi Nuno, I enjoyed this video as usual!

@3:25 You triple barrel shoved with Ah Qh on 2s 9d Ad 6s 4h.
What do you think of check-calling to induce his bluff as all draws missed. I play full-ring SNG and I "feel" check-calling could be higher ev play(I have not looked at DB though)

and what if river is something like Ts or 7d which completes his draws. Would you still shove? If not what line would you take?

Thanks!

Hey Shin glad you enjoyed it!

Good point. I think check calling otr is also a good play, specially not blocking the Qd or Qs, we protect our checking range since we are going to be check folding hands like the QdTd, KsTs or similar hands that now make very unsuccesful bluffs because they block quite a big part of the opp folding range.

On a very connected river like the Ts or 7d my std would be to check/decide, I don't think we can't shove for value a 1 pair hand anymore on this rivers.

Hello, Nuno!

I think AQ is the worst combo for check/call river, because AQ block the principal combo wich vilain value bet on the river and dont block AJ and AT that are hero call combos. Maybe AJ or AT are the best check call combos on the river.
AK without diamond is a good combo for check/call turn and river and protect ur range, because AK dont block AQ, the principal combo whick vilain value bet turn and river.

Cheers.

Hi Tenso!

I think that you are underestimating the value of any Ax on this particular board. It happens quite often to 6 Max players (idk if it's your case) In HU your opponent doesn't need a hand as strong as AQ (it also gets 4betted sometimes) to be valuebetting river on such a dry board.

Note that AQ still blocks AJ and AT hands as well but yeah, what you pointed out is completely true. I don't think that we need to check too many strong hands to protect our check folding range but, as you said, AJ,ATs are probably better combos to check than AQ.

About putting AK without diamond in our check calling turn seems just bad to me. AK is a very strong hand in that texture and benefits a lot of getting value from all his draws and worse 1 pair hands.

Hi Nuno what is the good proportion between our 4bet light and our 4bet for value if let's say we open 2,5x vilain 3bet 4x and we 4bet (2,4x?) ? And how the depth affects this ratio ?

Nuno Alvarez 8 years ago

Hi shooye, this is a very hard question to answer. I think it depends on how polar is the opp 3bet range and how wide do we wanna 4bet for value. I'd reccomend you to do some work with Flopzilla to find somewhat balanced ranges depending on your 4bet sizing.

Usually when playing deeper you should be looking to 4bet bluff hands with more playability than the ones that we should use when playing 100bb, therefore, hands like A3s A4s work better as 4bets at higher depth rather than the offsuit aces that we tend to use playing more common stack sizes.

Hi! Great video! Thanks. What is the name of the software that you use in the beginning of the video? A random generator?

Nuno Alvarez 7 years, 5 months ago

Hi man. Thanks, glad you liked it!

Yeah it’s just a random number generator. I use the one that teunuss shared with the RIO community in one of his videos. Here you have the download link:
