Nice video Brian. I am trying work on my MTT game. I play mainly cash games, but would like to start playing more MTTs. I get opening every pocket pair UTG early on because everyone is so deep. At what stack size do you start folding small pairs from UTG/EP?? Do you always open them? Also at what stack size are you open shoving small pairs vs regular open?

You can fold small pairs from EP when you start getting around 30bb or less. You can fold them with more than that as well, it just depends if you feel like you're not making money at the table by opening. As for shoving vs opening, that just depends on the players behind, exactly which pair we have, what tournament it is, etc. If I have 33 in the CO with 17 BBs, I could advocate shoving if the people behind are pretty aggro and will 3b us light. I could advocate r/f'ing if people behind are pretty tight or if you're at the final 2 tables of the sunday mill and want to play lower variance.

It don't make sense to open all small PP on tough tables where people are good enough to lay down TP by river? A lot of the time on tough tables where people are really good you are valuecutting yourself at times and are up against bigger sets when chips are going in? In lowstakes games it's fine to open any as people stack off with worse anyways? Is that theory way off or is that a good gameplan ?

That's an OK gameplan. When you're deepstacked though, it almost won't even matter how tough your table is, you'll probably still want all the pairs in your opening range. If you don't have them in your range, your ranges become easier to solve on turns/rivers and you're also just missing out on a lot of implied value when you hit. Even top pros will pay off 3 streets because it's not always as simple as "he bet 3 times, I should fold top pair." Often the board texture will force players to call 3, especially online where people will tend to make many less hero folds than live.

The last one is a very accurate explanation .) Im gonna finish the video that I started watching the other day. Just want to say that is so good have videos of high stakes MTTs in the essential plan. Ty for sharing that.

Very nice video, Brian. I loved the format and your very clear explanations of your thought processes. More like this please, RIO!
