POSTED Aug 12, 2018

Part two kicks off with Pedro Madeira aka gusmaa sitting on a 45BB stack and covering only a couple of players at his table. He continues to discuss the unique approach required when playing a PKO and how clear insta-folds in a regular tournament format become calls when you factor in the bounty.

Good video. I like watching your play. So far you’ve looked extremely balanced, and I navigated your way through with pose. What is the difference in the tournament your playing ( you keep referring to it as a PPO, rather then a freeze out). I’m assuming this is a no re-buy event: Amyway, if you can touch briefly on some of the hands that you think you should be exploring now that you’ve increased your BBs. Or if you feel like you should maintain playing snug.

1) With 44 on 345hh 9 Th why using 33% size bet on the river do you say that is an exploit one? It's because PIO usually don't use or because if you use this size you give him the option to XJam?

2) With JKo on QJ4tt why did you cbet with the second pair? If he calls, what would you do with this specific hand on
a) a diamond turn?
b) a brick turn?
c) a Ten?

3) do you have a dynamic open-raise size from EP? If som why? For the sake of curiosity: do you think that the stack constellations on 41'38'' would be a good occasion? Why?

4) with 55 on Q74r you said that betting on that board wasn't that bad, "all depends on how the opponent understand check-raise + how your cbetting should look like". How do you usually define how your opponents check-raisings tendencies looks like? I mean, do you do use a kind of typology or think about in term of frequencies? Or both? haha

Thanks!

Hello @SapereAude.

Regards to your questions:

  1. You are right, PIO do not use 33% here never, but I at the same time it does not mean this is a bad play. That being said its more like and exploitative play as I believe population will be unbalanced with this check, therefore having a range composed of more weaker hands than not, so the ideia is to attack that.

  2. I can bet some portion of my Jx (AJ and KJ) with a small sizing and its for thin value. And I will simply check all turns that are not a K or a J.

  3. My OR freq. is going to change according to my stack size. And with a stack such as the one on 41:38 I can widen up a bit, having suited connectors such as 54s+, some gappers as well as all pairs.

    1. The ideal way is to have a decent sample and look at his flop x/r. But in general just looking at this sharkcoope and if he is a mid stakes+ reg its likely he's being doing some PIO work and gets the strategy.

Great content again :) When you decide to check raise 57, does the check raise with like 30 bb will not affect too much our stack and go to the 25 bb zone which is a bit painfull as we can only continue our aggression with 6, as we do not have any backdoor flushdraw possible? Would this not be better doing it with 50 60 bb and play more straight forward 30 BB deep out of position, even if he does not always hit this board?
When you sb 3bet A8s with like 25 BB, what will be your strategy if the flop is not good for our hand? Bet flop 1 street and fold or just give up?

35' You call 76sb, is it not better to 3bet instead of calling with 35 40 BB?

Hi again!

By x/raising the 75o i make him fold most of his K to T high which is enough for my move to be profitable.
Regards to the A8s, its hard to generalie, but the main idea is to take the pot down pre flop.
And about the 76s hand, on the SB, getting a better price calling will be fine, but 3betting is also ok.
