What is the best/most efficient way to learn from scratch?

Hello all,

Looking for ideas as what is the best way to learn from scratch? Does it simply make sense to learn heads up, as this requires the widest ranges and the most options for play? Meaning, start from the widest, and work ones way back?

Thank you in advance for all opinions and ideas!

HU is a great place to start because it simplifies the process. A lot of HU situations map well onto 6 max and if you play short stacked, you'll have an edge in HU vs strong regs from the beginning. That's why I wrote a book about it.

Are you saying we will have an edge vs regs playing HU at 50bb? Why is that?

Think about it. Every reg studies 100bb only because that's what the cool kids do. Short stack play is completely different from 100bb. As a result, some "top regs" are so bad short that they are actually losing in the SB. I put preflop charts with built in exploits in my book so anyone who has them can automatically have a big edge pre. Memorize some x/shoving thresholds and river value thresholds and it's game over for a lot of these guys.

Why does no one do this, you ask? Simply because it's not "cool".

Short stacking inherently has an edge vs large stacks in poker because you can realize your equity much more easily by being all in pre or flop as well as getting callers to fold multi way

Are the experienced pros very familiar with the pre flop charts for each hand class at various stack sizes from each position at 6max? Do we need to try and memorize it or just put many dozens of hours reviewing the charts and our play and over the course of 100k hands and many hours of review just become very very familiar as to what to do with each hand class in each position based on stacks at the table?
