Transitioning from NLHE HU hypers to PLO. How to navigate learning and get good at PLO as fast as possible?
Hey guys,
im new to RIO and excited to be here. Looks like a really great learning community to be a part of. In fact so much so that I feel a bit overwhelmed with so much content. Im a midstakes NLHE HU hyper turbo and spins player looking to make the transition to PLO. I have a decent understanding of the GTO and exploitative strategies on my home formats. Any advice on how to navigate all the content and approach studying to get good at PLO most time efficiently would be greatly appreciated: what should I focus on the most and is there some must see content on RIO that I certainly don't want to miss?
Cheers

Hey, welcome to RIO, I am kind of new as well and be sure you won’t regret joining.
I also started learning PLO lately and I think you can just go for the Learning Path here for PLO, with the flop strategy by Badurowicz being the most valuable thing I have seen so far in terms of content.
If you watched the learning path, I would just watch Phil Galfond reviewing low and mid stakes plays, you can pause the video and think about what you would do and why and check what Phil thinks about it.
He does a really great job.
Just be noticed that if you grind low to mid stakes that things like balancing and stuff aren’t nearly as important as in NL.

Thanks for the reply man. I will make sure to check out the learning path. Already watched some Phil Galfond's videos as you recommended and loving them.

Voodoo32 splitpersonality Hey guys! I'm also learning the game and interested in sharing tools and strategies. Do you have any tools or resources in mind other than Leszek Badurowicz that I highly recommend as well? Thanks guys and glad to start the journey with you as well :)
A friend of mine was highly recommending MonkerSolver and https://solveoptimized.com for GTO solutions
Hey guys, new to RIO as well! So far seems like a good community and lovig the videos.
With respect to tools/software for the low stakes, I think plomatrix is prett useful. Based on monkersolver ranges and getting solid preflop play sets up the foundation to work on the rest of your fame. Also simple enough that you don’t get too crazy with gto at the micros - just a better understanding of what makes strong starting hands.
The plo from scratch articles on donkr are alao pretty good if you’re newer to PLO, but not sure how current those are.
I looked at the PLOMatrix and I agree with you, that this is super useful.
But nevertheless, it is still way too costy for me.
Good point, preflop mistakes lead to a lot of very expensive mistakes and situations postflop.

Thanks for the recommendation, will check it out
Yeah,
As I said here in the post from the author of the PLO Matrix, the price surprisingly went from 20$/month for small stakes to now 49$/month since their Upswing integration. This is unjustified (other than the fact that now upswing take a cut on it for integration), I agree as well on the high price for small and micro players.
Eventually more solutions like this will come in the future, as it has been done with Monkersolver PLO solvers and designed with a simple and clever 2-card matrix system.
except that it is patented.
It didn't go from $20 to $50. It went from $40 to $50. The same product they sold for $40/month is now avaliable for $50/month. 150% increase vs. 20% increase is a pretty signifigant difference. You are not paying $50 for the same product they were selling for $20 prior to Upswing being in the picutre. That is not at all accurate.
And there are similar products on the market already. PLO Visions being one of them. It's not the same, it's just similar. But if you think $50/month is -EV, you certainly wouldn't be happy with PLO Vision's $100/month price. Personally I think they're both a steal at their respective prices, but I haven't purchased PLO Visions so I could be wrong about that one. However, researching PLO Visions because I'm interested in buying it, it does appear to provide more than $100/month value.
Hey ponyneck, I'm pretty sure the latest price I checked around September 2018 was 19$/month for small stakes. So given there's no more small stakes price, yes, it went from $19/month to 49$/month for small stakes players (like me). There is no mention to "EV" or to another product in my comment, you wrote that. Again, I won't comment further here, just correcting what was said. GL in your poker journey!
There are a basic version for $19 and a premium version for $39 in September. Both versions include all stakes. The difference was in the multi-way and second layer actions.
Upswing eliminated the basic and sells the premium for $49.
Ponyneck was right, it went from $39 to $49. Just correcting what you said. GL.
Highly recommend Nick Johnson's series on transitioning from NLHE to PLO
Yeah watched it. Thanks for the tip
