Preflop Theory Question

Hi All,

Here's a question that bothers me quite a bit, and I was wondering if you guys could give me some insights.

In NL, we talk about 3betting hands that are a bit too weak to flat but a bit too strong to fold, and argue that it can be the +EV play.  However, does this apply to PLO preflop game as well?  In PLO we obv. have less FE preflop because people don't like to fold to 3bets, and the hands that fall into "too-strong-to-fold-but-too-weak-to-flat" category usually don't flop super well either, do they?

That said, can it still be a profitable play to 3bet these type of hands?  And if so, to what extent would this depend on our position?  Personally I wouldn't 3bet those hands when I'm OOP very often, but it seems like I should be able to, at least in theory.

Thanks,

- midori
