Hi guys! Just started dabbling in PLO and am really unsure about some basic spots so I thought I'd come here for help. I'm readless in this spot. My own thoughts on this hand (correcting my thought process is not only acceptable but desirable) :

Pre: Btn's isoing range is presumably quite wide which I think would consist mostly of high pairs and rundowns, which we may dominate so I decided to raise to put more money in the pot with a quite playable hand which can make nut straights and flushes. If we get 4-bet I think we can call but not super happy about it. I think flatting could also be an option as this hand plays quite well multiway. However we have bad absolute and relative position to other players if this goes multiway so that's another reason why i decided to raise. When villain calls my raise I think his range is the same as his iso range with the exception of AA hands and the very best KK -hands (maybe we can exclude the very best broadway rundowns also)

Flop: I decided to bet without showdown value and with a wrap and 2 bdfds. I think folding villain's equity share is an ok result for us. Sizing wise I think I may have made it too small as we can't get stacks in by betting three streets without potting the turn. I would like to hear your thoughts on check-raising/check-calling this flop. Getting 3-bet after x/raising flop this deep would be quite awful situation imo though. Check-calling let's villain xback flop if he doesn't bet and if he bets he can xback turn however our equity should be pretty good on most turns and rivers versus his mid- and bottomrange. Betting the flop best option?

Turn: I think I now would prefer x/potting to any other options as we aren't folding out pretty much any better hands by betting the turn and it let's our opponent to stab with his draws and we have decent equity even against his 2 pair and sets. As played we need ~33% equity to call and I think it's very close between a fold and a call. Opinions on turn play?

Cheers!

I think in theory your head is in the right place but in practice, being read-less at this low of a limit, you have to be really careful because a lot of the time you're better off taking a line that doesn't involve trusting them to make a good poker decision. So in this exact spot you're probably better off simplifying and taking a check/call/letthemrepyourhand line. All of your thought processes could be introduced to the problem again once you are positive villain cares about making the right decision.

It sucks that PLO is such a high variance game so when you just start out dabbling you naturally want to keep stakes as low as possible, but often times you'll run into the issue that no one is "playing poker" so you have to revert to a simplistic nut-peddle mindset which doesn't encourage much self improvement (which is obviously the goal as opposed to grinding out $2 limits professionally).

I would also be careful in using the phrase "showdown value" on the flop since your equity is more important at this stage of the hand, with showdown value being more important starting at the turn and most of all on the river.

Very good points zerochill. I definitely agree with you on both of your points. Maxexploiting weak opponents is something I've always struggled with and I'm working on it. I tend to give them too much credit on how they should be playing their range vs me and how good they are understanding my ranges in certain spots etc. etc.

Yeah, concentrating on showdown value on the flop probably stems from my Hold'em background and isn't as important in PLO like you said. Got to keep that in mind!

Thanks!
