PLO10: TPTK + nutFD + Gutter OTF

BN: Ddown_Mendes: $9.90
SB: apaatti: $19.39
BB: gsiciliano: $10
UTG: 7siri7: $13.11
HJ: AA88D: $8.75
CO: mlzmlz: $13.45
This is PLO10 ZOOM, so only thing I have on villain is that he is playing 25/25, but only in 16 hands. No further reads.
Preflop ($0.15) (6 Players)
gsiciliano was dealt 9 K Q A
7siri7 calls $0.10, AA88D raises to $0.45, mlzmlz folds, Ddown_Mendes calls $0.45, apaatti folds, gsiciliano calls $0.35, 7siri7 calls $0.35
Considered 3betting. Thoughts?
Flop ($1.85) 2 J A (4 Players)
gsiciliano checks, 7siri7 checks, AA88D bets $1.30, Ddown_Mendes calls $1.30
Do you lead, x/c or x/r?
What do you think villain's range is for getting the money in OTF?

I actually went for the x/r, the reasoning being that there was a lot of money already in the pot (I believe $4.45 with $9 effective behind)+ FE against both players (UTG cbetting range prolly wide here and BT not that strong just flatting + me having some blockers to butty hands/draws). Thanks guys.

I think you're a lot better off leading here.  There's a decent chance that there's a lower flush draw out there, and you def want to keep that in the pot.  By x/r you pretty much guarantee that lower flush draws will fold, and you get it in against hand that you're only flipping against.  You also have blockers both to top two pair and to the broadway straight draw so when you do get action on this board it's actually fairly likely that it's a lower flush draw.

I would pretty much always 3-bet this preflop for value.

Yeah, I 3-bet all day long. I would also check/raise this against people who c-bet a lot simply to gain the extra money before they fold. Against passive villains, leading is preferable 'cas we wanna get value from their random trash.

As played this is a super-clear raise imo. Plenty out there that we are happy to take down, especially given a lot of turns can be somewhat tricky. Would rather get the money in now where we know we have good equity than risk making mistakes OOP.

Definitely 3b this pre and also K raising flop. HJ has a stronger than normal range here as he's isolating UTG so I expect his c betting frequency to be higher than usual.

If we check call we kind of put ourselves in a tricky spot when we hit our 2 pair outs as they also make a straight and hitting our flush is likely to slow things down.

Worst case scenario, we gii vs AA we have ~35%

When we add AJ to HJ range we are flipping.

A third player with a smaller FD doesn't change much. He's pretty much drawing dead and we still pretty much flip with HJ.

In terms of 3b I wrote these notes for an old thread of mine. Hopefully it should help.

3 Betting

3 Betting IP in PLO is very tough to play against and is a lot of fun to do

These are just some basic notes that I’ve taken that will keep me thinking.

Thinking is good in poker. Auto-piloting is bad.

Benefits

1) Isolate weaker players

a) Pots usually end up being played multi-way to a single raise.

b) When we 3b we knock out players behind us allowing us to play a pot HU with the fish

2) People adjust poorly

a) People 4b lighter

b) Call too often and play fit or fold (nits)

c) ) Call too often and stack off too light (maniacs)

3) Playing big pots IP is +EV – position is king in PLO

4) Value obvs

Hands to 3b

1) Hands that have good preflop equity

a) Hands with big pairs and broadways

These hands dominate a lot of our opponents draws and stack off ranges

2) Hands that have good playability post flop i.e. they have a smooth equity distribution

a) This is not exclusive to the flop. It also means we pick up equity on later streets.

b) In low SPR pots we want hands that:

i) Flop equity more often

ii) Pick up equity on later streets

iii) Allows us to barrel more profitably

3) Hands that have a lack of nuttiness (pushing hands)

a) Benefit by seeing the pot HU. Their value is in flopping combo draws and getting stacks in.

b) Clean up our outs by forcing out opponents left to act behind us

When to call?

Calling is better when:

1) We have a pulling hand

a)These hands are more nutty and polarised and like to see flops multiway

i) E.g. AsT98s

ii) Weak AA

iii) Weak KK

b)With these hands we over nut our opponents

2) There is a huge fish in the blinds and 3b would fold them out

a) Obviously there are some fish that NEVER fold.

Things to think about before deciding to 3b or call

1) Does your hand play better HU or multi-way?

a) Pushing and Pulling

2) Who is in the blinds?

a) Fish to keep in?

b) Regs to force out?

3) Who is left to act behind us?

a) E.g. Flatting AAxx with a maniac behind allows us to reopen the betting to a 3b and get stack in easier

4) Does our hand dominate our opponents call 3b range?

Hope this helps.

Good luck

Thanks Ibex, it helps a lot, since I'm transitioning from NLHE and still kindda figuring out preflop ranges.  Since the equities ruun so close, I guess there's less value 3betting from the blinds (OOP) and much more IP in PLO than NLHE.
