I figure this is a fairly trashy hand, but odds too good to fold.

Facing a half pot bet, I thought:
A) I'm very high in my range
B) He can easily have spades or QJ
C) I feel like it would be best to have 0 or 2 spades, as if you have 1 you block FD without having extra equity
D) Not having QJ unblocks bluffs
E) Backdoor FD

So now this is one of the best not nut straights i can have so I figured call makes sense

Hard to believe him cuz Qd Jd is on the board and I have 8d, which are the 3 most likely flush cards he can have.
To beat me, he would have to have AxQJ ddxx or KxQJ ddxx that somehow didnt raise pre, AxJ8/KxJ8 ddxx or Ax86/Kx86 ddxx.
This seems like a super thin range so I called.

This hand is just a big mess man! You should just fold this hand from the SB, it is only playable blind vs. blind.
Welcome to RIO and PLO streets btw!
As played pre though, how is my thought process?
+1 to folding pre.
Well, let's assume you're check/folding all spade rivers and check/calling all diamond rivers. Already there are some reverse implied odds with the check/calling line....on top of that, what was your plan on brick rivers when facing the same bet? If you're answer is check/fold then you're folding way too much here and shouldn't call turn. If you're answer is check/call then sure you're bluffcatching a few missed FDs (assuming vil actually fires) but you're also giving 3 streets of value to a hand that could've had you beat from the very beginning.
Tbh it's a messy hand so I'm not 100% sure of my analysis, just my 2cents.
Pre looks reasonable to me. Give the tremendous pot odds you are getting both times it is hard to rationally argue against the preflop calls. The second call is more clear-cut than the first because you are closing the action. For those who argue in favour of a fold getting 9:1 how many : 1 is enough in this situation, and why? And what % of hands do you recommend completing in this scenario?
Flop looks reasonable as well. Even five way we should expect an unknown to bet more hands than J8. Betting might be a better approach. I don't think we can raise / stack off, our opponent did bet 5 way so there is a non negligible chance that he has J8. We are also a dog to some strong draws.
By the turn our situation may be deteriorating. Villain's sizing increases and we now have an easily duplicated third nuts. We do have diamonds and a gutshot and at least now it is heads up.
