Playing sets on aweful turns

BB: $10 (Hero)
UTG: $24.99
HJ: $10
CO: $10
BN: $17.23
SB: $26.90
Preflop ($0.15) (6 Players)
Hero was dealt K 7 9 K
UTG folds, HJ folds, CO raises to $0.30, BN folds, SB folds, Hero calls $0.20
Flop ($0.65) 6 T K (2 Players)
Hero checks, CO bets $0.40, Hero raises to $1.82, CO calls $1.42
Turn ($4.29) Q (2 Players)
Hero bets $3

These situations occur pretty often and I always wondered what would be the best play. I see a lot of people who go into c/c mode with their sets when the turn makes a straight possible. The problem is I dont want to give a free card for flushdraws or maybe some QJTx/789x hand. My problem with c/c is that you seldom get the odds for a good call. Lots of people just c/c a potsize bomb with 25% equity or even worse. Without good reads that villain bombs here as a bluff I dont really like c/c. Correct me if I am wrong.

So if I bet here I protect my hand, get maybe value from some weaker sets or twopair combos and if he goes allin I can call it off(maybe size it a little better) and potodds and equity should be ok for the worst cases. Any thoughts?
