How To - Construct a 3bet range Heads UP
Hello
Im a Heads Up player. I thing that one of my biggest leaks is bad understanding of how to construct a 3bet range.
Now I want to fix it, but I do not know how.
I want to know - WHY, why this hand is good or bad to 3bet vs this opponent? etc
Because right now my 3bet range is a total MESS.
Any videos , other resources? Generally how I should work to improve this? This is most important for me because I want to start working on it off the tables, just i dont know how.

Because we will always be oop, and have close to no preflop fold equity, I would start out with my strongest AAxx single or double suited hands, as well as some single / double suited rundown hands. If we see villain calling with unconnected hands, we can add strong KKxx hands and big rundowns with some dangle like AQJ5 single suited.
Roughly speaking, there are 2 reasons for 3-betting.
a) Pushing equity advantage
b) Add deception value/implied odds
Examples of a) would be AA, good KK and good A- or K-high rundowns, as they are often ahead of SB's opening range in terms of equity. Since you have an equity advantage, you want to put more money into the pot.
Examples of b) would be lower rundowns like 9876, A875ds, douple pairs, etc. With these hands you are not necessarily pushing an equity advantage, but you still have a good playability on various flops, and sometimes can have a nice deception value and implied odds on flops that are genarally bad for your 3b range (most people would think your 3b range is high card/pair heavy).
So, try to add some hands into each category and see how it goes. :) I would think a decent 3b % in HU is somewhere between 18 to 25%, although this depends on so many factors.
Thx for all answers
But these things are pretty obvious, I want go deeper
Midori you said
You know, I want to know this factors. I mean i need to create a good gameplan for 3betting first ,and i dont know how to do that. And without plan i cant proper adjust to various opponents.
You just have to try a few different things and learn from the feedback - I can't give you a one-fits-all solution.
That said, the factors would be:
a) His 4b frequency, and the hands that he does this with (does it have rundowns? AQQ type of hands? double pairs?)
b) His flop fold to cbet in 3b pots (the higher they are, the more you can 3b and cbet on flop)
c) His turn fold to cbet in 3b pots. This happens only so frequently, so be aware of the (usually) small sample size. Sometimes you can refer to his turn fold to cb in a single raised pot, although they might not be similar.
d) Your comfort level in 3b pots. If you are not too comfortable with 3betting and playing a bloated pot oop, you don't have to suddenly increase your 3b % by much. This is something many people don't even think about, but remember, you don't need to discomfort yourself just because you "have to" do something in poker. Try to make some gradual changes, not abrupt ones.
There might be more but I'm on my phone now, so I'll wrap it up here. I'm sure other posters will help you more!
