Doing Business in New Medium/High Stakes Game

Hi guys,

I am a longtime lurker and appreciate the insightful posts here at RIO. I usually play 5/5 PLO at undergrounds game here in NY and usually refuse to do business. Whether I am ahead or behind I always choose to run it once. The reason why is a few years ago I was playing in a 5/10 PLO home game in which I was unfamiliar with everyone except the host and was running business as usual. However, in one pot large HU pot, I was threatened after I did not allow 4 runs of entire boards (people also openly wondered whether there were enough cards to run 4 full boards) when I had allowed 4 runs of the river card an hour before with a guy I had tangled with a lot. The game then turned uncomfortable quickly as he was associated with 2 others at the table and they took turns telling me to watch myself when I left and started mucking cards sharply into my hands/acting out of turn when I was in tanking situations. From then on I decided if I only ran it once with everyone, no one could claim favoritism/directed antagonism and so far it has worked. This past week I encountered the same situation albeit less contentious. I don't want to insult the individuals in this game but it is known that many of the guys in this game are drug dealers/bookies/wrong side of the law. The game plays bigger than typical 5/5, there is no cap, there is always a 25 dollar straddle from anywhere on the table and people usually buy in for 2.5 - 5k. The action is great but obviously safety is paramount. Would you guys prefer to run business and just always acquiesce to whatever the opponent asks for? Or would you just prefer to always Run It Once?

Thanks guys.

-Dan
