IMO - 88 is too good to fold. CO (if he has any clue) looks to be raise inducing with the AK, but he could do the same with 55-77 which you crush and any broadways (which you are 50/50 at worst). In the long term, you'll be ahead or chopping pre-flop MORE than you will be crushed.

As short stack, you just can't fold 88 here unless you have a really specific read that CO is huge - like say he raises like 5% of hands or something like that.

What limit are you playing? I like 3-beting light on your spot and if called shoving the flop as long as it hasnt any broadways and at most one overcard (9 or 10) that doesnt hit his tight range too much. It is a quite risky move, but way stronger than shoving pre-flop and coinfliping your tournament life on bubble IMO.

I actually don't think that these very specific situations are going to make a big difference to your overall winnings in the long run. It will, however, affect your variance. This is a spot where shoving is going to be +chip EV, but ICM may get on your case a bit. In reality, you are likely going to be making more money by shoving over a large # of trials, but you will encounter quite a bit of variance along the way. I think that this is a spot that you shouldn't dwell on a lot. It is a crucial situation where you make the money or not today, but that shouldn't affect your decision and you shouldn't dwell on it too much.
