Isildur IP HU. Turn goes bet-raise. Draw 1 - pat. River check/check and isildur shows J7532. Isn't drawing 1 here a bigger favorite than patting a J. Not sure of the earlier action but not sure if it makes much of a difference. Thanks

Simon Ash11 years, 11 months agoPretty sure that a smooth Jack is a very marginal favourite over someone drawing 1 - although most people say the draw is easier to play...
GameTheory11 years, 11 months agoThe equities run close, suppose he is against 8632(6) then with patting he is 58% and drawing the J he is 54%.
If he is against the best hand possible 7234(7) patting gives 49% and drawing gives 47% so patting is always better equity wise. But drawing here cannot be a big mistake because 7532 can draw very strong so you can valuebet instead of checking back.
If Viktors opponent patted the third draw he would've discarded the J most likely, that is nice about raising after the second draw in position.
Brian Hastings11 years, 10 months agohigher equity patting (run it in troutulator vs a few hands), better implied odds drawing, just a matter of weighing which matters more...
GameTheory11 years, 10 months agoAren't there range vs range reasons to pat here? If Viktor draws one he can get lead into, and must play a bluffcatching game.
If Viktor expected his opponent to often pat he would've discarded the J for sure, hence his range might be better suited to combat a range that often pats. Thus he might have an excess of strong hands in his raise range with one draw left.
You would be 50/50 in theory between J7532 and 7532, but in practice, if villain draws 1, he blocks some of our outs, so the pat J has quite a bit more "real equity"

the larger the pot size, the better it is to pat. Raw equity will dominate playability and ability to value bet rivers in big pots.

depends on what limit you are at mate as to blocking outs!!!
Being serious - I would also think position is key here as well - in position I would tend to pat this, oop is much more grrr...
