Are these live Sit 'N Go type tournaments winable?
Lately I've been playing at a local casino that has pretty low stakes Sit 'N Go type tournaments every day at 5:30 and I'm wondering if it is smart to play them for profit. The stacks start at 5k with 12 minute blind changes with the blinds starting at 25/50. I've played in two and I won one while the other I didn't cash, and I'm wondering if you guys think it would be profitable to play these? The blinds get to the point near the end where it is pretty much all in or not and I feel like luck becomes too much a part of it. What does everyone think?
Birdman12 years, 3 months agoBut do you think playing them can earn a profit? I'm mostly playing them for the fun of it but is it a bad idea to play them money wise?
BadBeatLust12 years, 3 months agoWell if you play every day for a week you can see the results but not if you play 2 or 3 to be honest.
If they are single table SnGs and I'm guessing the payouts are 50/30/20 then with a bit ICM work and correct reads on regs they are pretty beatable, on a bigger rate than the online STTs I may add.
But again, as Schu said, to show a decent profit you have to play a big amount of them.
Joe Nelligan12 years, 3 months agoIf it is low stakes live then there are going to be "regs" who are clueless in regards to playing sub 10 BB stacks, you will see stuff like limp/folding and never shoving wide enough. I think they can be extremely profitable even with bad structures, high rake, and tipping the dealers. To be honest most opponents are so bad I prefer a structure that has a 8 BB avg stack on or near the bubble compared to 15 or 20, they are that bad in my experience.
Birdman12 years, 3 months agoThanks for the advice! I'm just beginning playing live poker so I will continue to play in these for now and see if I can get any better. It is mostly regs and after two tournaments I already have reads on a lot of the people there. The problem I have is that even though I know most people there are very tight, it is hard to make any moves because the stack sizes are so low.
BadBeatLust12 years, 3 months agoStack sizes might be low but since you say every1 is very tight you don't have to risk an awful lot to gain chips man.
Raise/folding with a 15bb stack can amass a huge amount of chips over a long term period and with antes in play its a huge edge you can have against regs especially.
BadBeatLust12 years, 3 months agoAnd mostly with hands that are not worth calling a 3b jam with, bottom 40% hands etc. which you can dump as soon as you see a raise.
newt12 years, 2 months agoGenerally these players are pretty weak, you should have some moderate success (if the rake isn't horrific)
IrishLuck77712 years, 2 months agoI just started playing a few live tournaments that average 2-4 tables and would say that these games are very very soft. if you have any idea of how to play 10bb stacks or smaller you have a big advantage on these players. I would say that if you play just 100 games in a year you should be able to show a decent profit
Nomboo12 years agoI think it is more beatable live than online. But I find that the rake is too much, play 100 of them and see if it is profitable and let us know
IrishLuck77712 years agoall of the places i play at add house money into the tournaments which basically cancels out what they take in rake so beating the rake is not the problem. it is just playing enough games to try and cancel out the variance.
