NLHE 9handed, passive table, what hands can i play profitably in late position?
Assume Hero OTB, with {K4s, QTo, 86s} you face a UTG+1, MP and CO limp, with 200bb effective stacks. Your image is aggressive and bluff happy. Opponents are somewhat straight-forward with occasional erratic/unorthodox plays. 9handed
What are some fundamentals when considering to play each hand? what else should i think of
i like to limp behind with K4s as it keeps in worse Qxs, Jxs, Txs etc and when i pair the king i can control the pot somewhat being in position. A smaller pot means i may be able to take some stabs at it too when checked to.
i prefer isolating QTo and putting pressure on $R$R* boards versus the initial limpers, i may have to play cautiously if the blinds come along.
86s - 9 handed my flush draw is vulnerable. Which means this hand is often played as if unsuited. i don't know if i am making enough of hand to warrant playing this hand even in position.
my trouble has been that i am simply not getting enough folds with my bluffs. my image is very bluff happy/aggressive and so players are trapping me frequently - they are checking/calling with almost their entire range. i'm trying to choose the boards i attack as best as possible given what read i have and my hand strength etc This does mean their donks are usually weak and i am taking advantage of this. but to counter their overall strategy i am trying to TIGHTEN my range and aim for more value where possible. However i dont know if i am valuing my hands correctly preflop. 6 max my ranges are more clearly defined. but 9handed i dont think i am valuing hands correctly AND some opponents are limping some very strong hands in early position 'waiting for to raise' while others are simply playing straight-forward. So when deciding on isolating it becomes a guessing game as to whether they have limped strong or just limping hoping to hit and then fold.
i've been valuing cutting myself frequently - EVEN when aiming not to do so.
i've been firing away on 'standard' board textures where my range would be strong and they calling down with parts of their range i lumped into the 'fold' category.
of course this means i should be aiming for value more and bluff less BUT some spots aren't black and white.
if you raise with AQ and you have an aggressive image but the board comes down dry and low 852r for instance, HU pot i can maybe check it down and maybe call a stab bet by my opponent depending on their tendencies BUT when its 3way or 4way, i think betting looks strong and i have some equity when called... this is the dilemma i am facing often in the hand. trying to decide how stubborn my opponent is.
If i decide to limp and one of the blinds raises and everyone calls, what SPR am i allowed to make the call and play the pot in position? what limping/calling ranges am i allowed here?
where might my thinking be going wrong?
