Weird combo draw hand
20 NL equivalent 6-max cash.
Villain is in UTG. Hero is in HJ with 8s5s. Villain is tricky, slightly LAG reg. I have a somewhat LAG image, but not crazy. Effective stack size is 80BB.
Preflop: Villain open 3x. Hero calls.
Flop (Pot 7.5BB): Jc7s4h. Villain checks. Hero bets 45% pot, Villain check-raises to 11BB. Hero calls.
Turn (Pot: 30BB) Ks. Villain bets 22.5BB, Hero shoves. Villain calls.
River: 7c. Villain wins with AsQs.
Preflop, I know the call is loose. I was a bit distracted with action on another table and clicked call. If I played it now, I would 3-bet or fold.
Flop, when he checks, I think he has some marginal hand. The flop is ok for my range, since I can have all the sets. A relevant point of history here: I had stacked this villain a couple of days ago with a set in roughly the same spot. Anyway, I bet somewhat small since the board is rather dry. When he check-raises me, I have absolutely no idea what range to put him on. Why did he not bet flop? Anyway, I call because I have a gutshot and BDFD. Was it correct?
Turn: He bets 3/4 pot. The card is good for his range, so his bet makes sense. But I still have no idea what kind of hand he has. I have a FD and a gutshot, so I could just call in position. Instead, I jam turn. Not really sure what I was thinking, but I think I put him on some kind of marginal hand, and thought that I have a decent amount of fold equity here.
He showed up with AsQs, so he had a combo draw of his own. I guess he took this line because now he's priced in with his combo draws, in case I have something like QJ or KQ? This is a new one for me. If this is a good play, I would like to add it to my repertoire.
