UTG / MP opening and defending ranges (chart)
Hi all,
(The program is Range Manager, the colours may seem confusing but it's easy to follow once you map it out. Shading of any colour is the opening range, Blue is call 3bet, Blue boarder is additional hands called only when in position, i.e. 3bet comes from the blinds. In UTG, AA, KK 4bet/call. AJs, KQs, 98s are 4bet bluffs out of position, and A5s, A4s, 87s are 4bet bluffs in position.)
This is put together over time from a variety of sources, Applications of No-Limit Hold 'em, Poker Snowie, etc. The logic behind different 4bet bluffs in and out of position is basically blockers, board coverage, and playability when called. Percentages are ~40% defended out of position, ~55% in position. I've seen much wider and tighter defending ranges than that.
I can understand calling very wide from the BTN vs a re-steal, as we have position, +EV vs the worst hands in their range, but from earlier positions I'm still unsure. Even if we're being 3bet 4% / 5% from these positions, can I justify defending double that from out of position? Any critique or questions welcome.
