Struggling to Grind - Helpful friends wanted!

Hi

I've played poker semi-seriously for a few years, over various stakes right 2nl to 100nl. Results are mixed and I never really tracked them but overall I'd say break even to very small win.

The last few weeks I decided I'd deposit $100 and try to grind up to being rolled for 100nl. I bought From the Ground Up and also working my through the Grinders Manual, so I guess following Pete Clarke's guidance. I've been 4 tabling 10nl on partypoker.

It started great and within a few sessions I was up 15BIs. However the wheels have come off and I'm now just 1.5BIs up. I'm not big headed or naive enough to say I'm just running bad. Two big leaks I think I have calling down too much and more generally mental issues with tilt, which compounds errors like the former.

Needless to say the 14BI downswing has knocked my confidence. I'm determined to improve and grind back up. I've no poker "friends" or "community" so it would be great to make some connections to sound things out with and help each other out.

Looking forward to some positive responses.

Thanks

RIO is the best place to find guys that are willing to get better like. So always feel free to post threads or send PMs.
First thing i recognize here is that you are starting your project with beeing quite low on BIs.
Even though calling down too light doesnt sound like beeing scared money. But maybe you would feel more confident with having some more BI on the side:
So maybe you could just drop to NL2/NL5 or withdraw some more cash that it doesnt feel weired if you drop 3-4 BI....Thats kind of normal.
But if you have some questions about specific hands/decisions just post some HH.

Thanks man. I am rolled for more, I just deposited the initial $100 to get things going. I can consider myself much deeper for 10nl as reloading wouldn't be a problem financially. Similarly, as I'm comfortable playing and improving at 10nl I don't want to waste time starting at lower stakes.

Yeah... I guess for the most players is loosing this 100$ not getting them poor. Its just more of a mental thing that you see dropping like 30-40% of your (deposited) money during the grind that makes feel uncomfortable.
But everyone is different about these things. And loosing 14 BI is stuff that simply happens from time to time (even though it makes sense to analyse this streak as it could also be due to failures of course).
I had a downswing of about 35BI some months ago that made drop several limits :/

Hey BF, I"m also following the FTGU course and like you don't have much of a network so would be up for swapping ideas. It sounds like I"m more of a rec than you though, I generally single table NL5/10 occasionally NL20 in the evenings, but hoping to move up in stakes. Happy to chat if helpful?

One of the most helpful things for me esp at first when I started playing online was taking notes on everyone on the pool...
Pay attention to your opponents, and take brief and to the point notes on them. How they open, cbet, value bet, bluff and...
The other important thing is to have solid preflop discipline.
We're here for you.
Good Luck grinding.

My story is pretty much Identical, just getting back into poker after a few years hiatus. The game has changed a little bit. Is there a discord or something?

Dont feel bad about dropping 14BI, I dropped 10 today alone!! I wouldve tilted massively a few months ago but kept my head, kept playing my normal game and got most of it back.

I would drop to NL2/NL5, keep watching the videos (Peter and Henry Lister are really good to watch) and dont be scared to try new things. Post hands on here and ask as many questions as you need to, Ive learned so much from the guys that post on here.

You're story sounds alot like my story. I bought the FTGU series about a half year ago and moved up from 5NL to 25NL, I guess running pretty hot. Then I lost alot of BI and now struggling on 10NL. I noticed that going over videos in the series a few weeks later helps alot. I've always had a god memory, but for some reason I also tend to forget strategies. So now I try to revisit a video every day and practise that topic. Has anyone else experienced the same? I have discord also, do you still have a channel where you discuss hands and strategy?

Im interested in any groups or whatever (discord?). In a very similar boat

I just keep on losing at 5nl despite hundreds and hundreds of hours studying. Down another 3 or 4 buyins this afternoon, seems like it happens every time i sit down and im just feeling crushed. And then i take a break and just watch videos here or read books, return to the table with confidence and get smashed again and repeat the process
